Attorney General Racine Names James A. Pittman and Robert


P. Marus to Direct Legislative and Communications Efforts for
His Office
Seasoned District Government Professionals Most Recently Worked in Gray
Administration
WASHINGTON, D.C. Attorney General Karl A. Racine announced today that he had selected
two experienced District government professionals to fill key posts for the Office of the
Attorney General (OAG). James A. Pittman, who will serve as the OAG Legislative Director, most
recently directed the Office of Policy and Legislative Affairs (OPLA) for the Executive Office of
the Mayor (EOM). Robert P. Marus, who will serve as the OAG Communications Director, most
recently was EOMs Deputy Director of Communications/Senior Communications Officer.
James and Rob are seasoned professionals who both have extensive experience working
with a broad array of agencies on a wide swath of policy issues touching every part of the
District governments portfolio, Attorney General Racine said. They will bring significant
expertise and significant energy to addressing OAGs legislative and communications needs as
we move into a new era, and I am confident they will serve this office and the people of the
District well.
Pittman served as OPLA Director from 2014 until the end of former Mayor Vincent C. Grays
term. Prior to joining OPLA in 2011, he served as Legislative Counsel for the D.C. Councils

Committee on Economic Development and as Legislative Counsel for the Councils Committee
on Libraries, Parks and Recreation. He holds a J.D. degree from the Howard University School of
Law and a B.A. cum laude in political science from Alabama A&M University in Normal, Ala.
Pittman resides in Ward 5.
Prior to being named Deputy Director/Senior Communications Manager of EOMs
Communications Office in 2014, Marus served as the offices Senior Writer and Editor. He
previously worked as a Washington-based journalist, serving as Managing Editor and
Washington Bureau Chief for the daily national news service Associated Baptist Press (now
Baptist News Global. He holds a bachelors degree cum laude in English from Rhodes College in
Memphis, Tenn. Marus is a Ward 2 resident.
