Course: Business Ethics

Course Description:
With immense influence of business organizations on society it is expected for business
managers to recognize their role on overall well being of society. Ethics is intertwined with
this expectation. Recent cases of major ethical violations by firms in many industries are
just few examples for importance of ability to appreciate and deal with the questions of
ethics.
This course is aimed at generating a dialogue and collective reflection o embrace the subtle
and explicit question of ethical choices in various business areas and situations amongst the
participants. The course comprises of experiential learning as well as theoretical
components of ethics, invited talks on personal experience and traditional wisdom on areas
of ethics.
At the end of the course participants should be able to:

Recognize the importance of systematic deliberation on ethical aspects of business


Interpret the different approaches of ethics
Recognize and appreciate the thought on Dharma and Niti in Indian traditional
wisdom
Carry out a conversation on ethical choices using appropriate conceptual anchors
Interrogate the ethical dilemmas and situations in the areas of marketing, Finance,
Intellectual property among others

Evaluation: Total Marks: 100

Learning and Teaching Method:

This course is based on projects, case analysis and discussions methods on


identified themes and reading material.

In the first session students should form the group and choose the topic of the
project.

Broad topics of the project are given with course outline.

From the 3rd session onwards class will start with student group presenting the
project work in the beginning of the session. Time allotted for project presentation
is maximum 20 minutes and 10 minutes for question-answer and project related
discussion.
