Departmental Objectives
The Diploma in Midwifery aims to:
1. Develop the knowledge, attitude and Skills of first level midwives in the care of the child, the adolescent, and the adult woman prior to, or during, and following pregnancy.
This prepares the midwives to:
1.1 Give necessary supervision, care and advice to women during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum period
1.2 Manage normal deliveries on her own responsibility and the care of the newborn infant.
2. Specifically, graduates of the two year program are expected to:
2.1 Perform primary health care services within the community (promotive and preventive care)
2.2 Counsel and educate women, family and community regarding family planning including preparation for parenthood.
2.3 Detect abnormal conditions in the mother and infant.
2.4 Procure specialized assistance as necessary (consultation or referral)

Pathological Obstetrics, Basic Family Planning and Care of Infants & Children (M102)

Course Description
The course deals with the complications of Pregnancy, Labor, and Delivery, its causes and management, Care of Infants and Children including Integrated Management of Childhood diseases, and
basic family planning.
General Course Objectives:
To develop students competencies in identifying patients with complications during pregnancy, labor and delivery, and in implementing IMCI program and basic family planning .

The components of your grade for a particular grading period are long exam, quizzes, and other course requirements with the following weights:

Your grade in every grading period is composed of 40% of your grade in the previous grading and 60% of your grade in the present grading period.
Classroom Decorum
During classes you are expected to be punctual. Be sure to wear the schools official uniform and ID in attending classes. On the 16 th minute after the class has started, the doors of the
classroom will be locked. Late entrance will not be allowed. Please refer to the students handbook for policies related to the late entrance and not wearing of uniforms. Moreover, you are expected to
listen attentively as well as actively participate in the classroom discussion and lectures. With this you are expected to ask relevant questions and share your ideas regarding the topics. Making of
unnecessary noise especially those that are not related to the topics is discouraged. Cellular phones and other sounding gadgets should be turned off or be set in silent mode during classes.
Absences during Exams and late submission of requirements
Only those whose absence is excused will be given special exams or quiz (refer to the college terms and examination section of the Hand Book). However the special exam should be taken within a
week (7 days) after the examination date. Special exam should be taken immediately on the day you reported in class. Non-compliance of the above mentioned provisions would mean of grade 50%
in the exam or quiz missed
Attendance
Attendance will not be graded but will be checked. However it is to your advantage if you attend the class regularly.
