Fractaldimensionbasedneurofeedbackinseriousgames
Abstract
EEGbasedtechnologyiswidelyusedinseriousgamedesignsincemorewirelessheadsetsthatmeetconsumercriteriaforwearability,price,
portability,andeaseofusearecomingtothemarket.Originally,suchtechnologiesweremostlyusedindifferentmedicalapplications,Brain
ComputerInterfaces(BCI)andneurofeedbackgames.Thealgorithmsadoptedinsuchapplicationsaremainlybasedonpowerspectrum
analysis,whichmaynotbefullyrevealingthenonlinearcomplexityofthebrainactivities.Inthispaper,wefirstreviewneurofeedbackgames,
EEGprocessingmethods,andalgorithms,andthenproposeanewnonlinearfractaldimensionbasedapproachtoneurofeedbackimplementation
targetingEEGbasedseriousgamesdesign.Onlyonechannelisusedintheproposedconcentrationquantificationalgorithm.Thedeveloped
methodwascomparedwithothermethodsusedfortheconcentrationlevelrecognitioninneurofeedbackgames.Theresultanalysisdemonstrated
anefficiencyoftheproposedapproach.WedesignedandimplementednewEEGbased2Dand3Dneurofeedbackgamesthatmaketheprocess
ofbraintrainingmoreenjoyable.
