Welfare Ministry To
Address Street Beggars
Dealing with street beggars is an
ongoing challenge for the Ministry
of Women, Children and Poverty
Alleviation. One particular concern
now for the Ministry is the use of
children by beggars to arouse public
sympathy. According to the Ministry
of Women, Children and Poverty
Alleviation, the number of street
beggars on our streets are increasing
almost on a daily basis. This has led the
Ministry to impose a zero tolerance on
child begging across the country.
The sad fact is that this is just a one
month old baby. We have had cases
of children but not as young as this
one and with our task force activated
with the Police, we will continue
to take children into our custody
and previously the Police were just
warning. Now we are taking action,
said Minister for Women, Children and
Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar.
However, Minister Akbar says
sensitive approaches are always vital
when dealing with street beggars. We
have found that some have actually
being used by the families to beg and
some of them are mentally challenged.
So we are trying to make every effort
to assist them.
Partnering To Increase
Europe Tourist Arrivals
To kick off the New Year, Fijis High
Commissioner to the United Kingdom,
H.E. Mr. Solo Mara, met with Tourism
Fiji and UK tour operators at the Fiji
High Commission to discuss and
strategies on how best to maintain the
increasing Europe tourist arrivals to
Fiji.
It also helps that Fiji has been ranked
the happiest nation ahead of 64 other
countries across the globe in the WIN/
Gallup Internationals global 38th End
of year survey results that came out in
December, says H.E. Mara.
High Commissioner Mara said the meeting
was a way of fostering partnerships
amongst key stakeholders and allows the
Fiji High Commission, Tourism Fiji, Fiji
Airways and tour operators to dialogue
and discuss plans for 2015 with the hope
of streamlining activities to get maximum
benefits for Fiji.

"Canterbury police will continue to
support Aaliyah's family through the
court process."
No other charges were likely "at this
point in time" and police were not
seeking anyone else in relation to the
death.
"Any death is difficult to deal with
but I think it's particularly difficult to
deal with when someone of that age is
involved," Mr Anderson said.
The age of the baby and the injuries
involved made it a "complex"
investigation, he added.
Aaliyah's family was "very upset", he
said.
The alleged killer walked out of court
with hands shielding her face, and was
bundled into a waiting car.
Police investigations are continuing.
Aaliyah's family posted a tribute on the
website Heaven Address on Friday.
"You grew up way too fast, before
we knew it, it was your first birthday,
a whole year had passed. You began
to walk, talk, laugh and smile. You
became the smartest girl I knew, your
momma always teaching you new
tricks to do," the tribute said.

Low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol,
LDL-C
What is this test?
This test measures the amount of
low-density
lipoprotein-cholesterol
(LDL-C) in your blood.
LDL cholesterol is often called "bad"
cholesterol because it causes plaque to
build up inside your arteries and leads
to heart disease.
Cholesterol screening is recommended
for men older than 35 and women older
than 45. If you have risk factors for heart
disease, such as a family history of heart
disease, you may need to begin regular
testing of cholesterol as young as age
20. LDL cholesterol is one of a group of
lipoproteins that can indicate heart disease,
so this test is used to help diagnose it.
Lowering LDL-C levels can help
prevent heart disease.
Why do I need this test?
You may have this test as part of a routine
exam to check for high cholesterol.
You may also have this test if you already
have heart disease caused by high
cholesterol. The test can help your doctor
find out how well your treatment is working.
What other tests might I have along
with this test?
Your doctor may also order other blood
tests to measure the levels of various
fats in your blood, including:
Total cholesterol
Triglycerides
High-density lipoprotein, or HDL
What do my test results mean?
Many things may affect your lab test
results. These include the method each
lab uses to do the test. Even if your test
results are different from the normal
value, you may not have a problem.
To learn what the results mean for you,
talk with your health care provider.
Results are given in milligrams per
deciliter (mg/dL). The normal range

Speak and listen to your child with
consideration and respect. From the
time he or she can talk, a gifted child
is constantly asking questions and
will often challenge authority. "Do
it because I said so" doesn't work.
Generally, a gifted child will cooperate
more with parents who take the time
to explain requests than with more
authoritarian parents.
Teach your child how to find
information and resources in a
variety of ways. Gifted children
need to know, to learn, to solve, and
to ponder. There will be times when
your child's expertise on a topic will be
greater than yours, and you will not be
able to provide answers or solutions.

Relationship
Secrets To A Long-Lasting
Marriage
Treat your in-laws with respect, give
your spouse breathing space and keep
the spark alive to build a rock-solid
relationship
Nowadays, the term 'long-lasting
marriage' is an oxymoron. With
divorce rates rising, separation has
become the easiest solution to tackle
any rocky relationship! No wonder,
fewer couples are giving their marriage
a deserving second chance.
Like any other relationship, even
a marriage needs help, every now
and then, especially when things get
difficult. True, it may be challenging
and require more effort on your part but
the rewards are worth the extra work.
So instead of ignoring and brushing
your marital woes under the carpet,
make your marriage a happy and longlasting affair.
The Big C Communication
If communication is missing in your
marriage, before you even realise it, it
will slowly destroy your relationship.
Everyone talks about honesty in a
marriage but that's only possible if
communication lines are open. So even
if you're busy with your work, children,
gym, household chores or social
activities, just set aside 15 minutes in
the day, especially for your spouse.
Use this precious time to sit and talk
about things not just about work and
family but even anything random.
Dignity and respect
"Love is overrated it's respecting
your spouse and giving him dignity
that will strengthen your bond and help
your relationship in the long run," says
Seema, clinical psychologist. You may
be married to him and he may be an
integral part of your life, but that doesn't
mean you own him. It's important you
don't dominate or boss him around,
alone or in front of family and friends.
Learn to respect his feelings and
decisions, even if you don't agree.
It's okay to compromise
Maybe it's the way we've been
