Knitting Needles: US 11 (8mm) 24" circular and set of 2
double-pointed needles or size to obtain gauge
Extras: Cable needle, yarn needle

Gauge: 12 sts and 16 rows = 4" in St st; 28-st cable panel

= 7". Use any size needles necessary to obtain specified
gauge.

SPECIAL TERMS
T3B: Sl 1 st to cable needle and hold to back, k2, p1 from
cable needle.
T3F: Sl 2 sts to cable needle and hold to front, p1, k2
from cable needle.
C4B: Sl 2 sts to cable needle and hold to back, k2, k2
from cable needle.
C4F: Sl 2 sts to cable needle and hold to front, k2, k2
from cable needle.

Row 0 of chart is a set-up row and is only worked once.
RUANA
Back: Cast on 86 sts. Work in k2, p2 ribbing, ending with
k2, for 3", inc 2 sts on last row 88 sts. Set up patt as
follows:
Next Row (WS): P2, work Row 0 of 28-st cable panel 3
times, p2.
Next row (RS): K1, work Row 1 of 28-st cable panel 3
times, k2. Continue as set, keeping the first and last 2 sts
in St st and rep Rows 1-28 of cable panel until piece
measures 28", ending with a WS row.

Shape Neck and Fronts:

Next Row (RS): Work in established patt across 30 sts (2
edge sts plus 1 rep of cable panel), join a second ball of
yarn and bind off center 28 sts for back neck (center
cable panel), work in patt across last 30 sts (1 cable panel
plus 2 edge sts). Work both sides separately at the same
time. Continuing in patt, inc 1 st each neck edge every
20 rows twice 32 sts each side (2 edge sts each side,
plus 28 st cable panel). Work edge sts in St st as
before. Work even in patt on 32 sts each side until piece
measures 25" from bind off for back neck and dec 2 sts
on last row 30 sts. Work in k2, p2 ribbing, ending with
k2, for 3". Bind off in pat.
FINISHING
Side Trim: Along long edge of piece, pick up and knit 166
sts. Work in k2, p2 ribbing, ending with k2, for 3". Bind
off in patt. Rep on opposite side.
Front Trim and Collar: Along both fronts and around
neck edge, pick up and knit 190 sts. Work in k2, p2
ribbing, ending with k2, for 3". Bind off in pat.
Tie (Make 6): With double-pointed needles, cast on 3 sts.
Work in I-cord (* knit to end of row, do not turn; slide sts
to opposite end of needle; rep from *) for 18". Bind off.
Weave in ends. Damp block piece if desired. Fold piece in
half with bind off and cast on ends tog at bottom.
Measure approx 10" down from fold and sew one cord to
front and back on each side, tie to form armholes. Sew
rem 2 cords to center front at point where neck shaping
begins, tie to close.
