1. INTRODUCTION
This manual is intended to provide guidance for the installation, operation and
maintenance of the HiD 2000 range of intrinsic safety isolators.
To avoid damage, failure or improper operation, carefully read this manual before
installing and operating the instrument.
This manual and the related equipment should not be used by untrained personnel
unless they are fully acquainted with the principles of intrinsically safe systems.
Elcon Instruments has published a complete tutorial entitled titled Guide to Intrinsic
Safety covering most aspect of intrinsic safety.
The book can be obtained from Elcon Instruments free of charge.

2. UNPACKING
Upon receipt of the materials it is recommended to check immediately the integrity
of the packing and their contents.
If there is any indication or evidence of shipping damage the equipment should not
be moved or unpacked. Moving the equipment to a remote storage or holding area
may unfavorably affect the owners shipping insurance protection.
The receiver should promptly and properly report to the shipper supplying all
necessary information.
If instruments are not for immediate use it is recommended that you check that all
characteristics shown on the instruments label meet order specifications (model,
supply voltage and frequency, input/output range, certification, tag etc.) as well as
the actual application requirements.
If not installed, equipment should be stored following recommendations in the next
paragraph, Storage.
2-1
IM-ENG-112/GB-PN991190
3. STORAGE
In case of storage of instruments and accessories proper care should be taken to
protect from any possible damage.
Always store instruments in their sealed original packaging until they are installed.
Provide adequate protection to prevent damages that may be caused by exposure
to:
Rain, excessive humidity and/or temperature excursions (inadequate sheltering).
Dust (build-up of a corrosive patina that may cause oxidations and reduce
isolation).
Aggressive and polluting atmospheres (SO2 , H2S, mists, salts, smokes, etc.) with
consequent corrosion.
Access by insects/rodents (damage of packing or content).
Mechanical shocks or unauthorized packing opening.
Intense vibrations (loosening of fastened parts, fatigue failures etc.).
Any other possible risk.
Make sure the storage temperature does not exceed the limits of -20 to + 70 C
(-4 to 158 F) for medium/long term storage (days/months) and -25 to + 75 C
(-13 to 167 F) for short term (a few hours) transportation/shipment.
If inspection is completed, pack instruments in their original packing, seal plastic
bags including desiccant bags (i.e. silica gel) especially in humid environments.
List the contents on the packaging to avoid unnecessary further inspections.

5. INSTALLATION
5.1 SAFETY INSTRUCTION (PRECAUTIONS)
Correct and safe operation of ELCON HiD 2000 calls for expert installation and
commissioning as well as correct operation and meticulous maintenance.
Only those persons conversant with the installation commissioning, operation and
maintenance of similar apparatus and who has the necessary qualifications are
allowed to work on HiD 2000.
Make sure installation is carried out observing the safety regulations pertaining to
the installation and operation of electrical systems and the directives and guidelines
on explosion protection (Hazardous area equipment should comply with the
descriptive system document).
The installation must be performed by qualified personnel, it must comply with the
relevant national/international standards (e.g. IEC 79-14, CEI 64-2, BS 5345 Pt 4,
DIN VDE 165) and in line with the established installation rules and recommended
practice (eg. CEI 64-8, ANSI/ISA RP-12.6). The conformity of hazardous area
devices with the related system documentation must always be checked; this
instrumentation IS NOT intended for hazardous area installation unless it is
included in a proper explosion proof enclosure which conforms to the applicable
standards. For I.S. applications the max limit for AC power supply is 250 Vrms.
For more information on request Elcon will provide the manual Guide to Intrinsic
Safety, a comprehensive tutorial about the constraints imposed by the I.S. regulations.

5.3 MOUNTING
2108 and 2116 type of Termination Boards have different width (for 8 or 16
Modules) and different depth (with or without the cross-wiring option) providing four
different sizes. (See Fig.1).
On the metal chassis which protects the PCB, four slots in the corner permit Board
mounting on the surface by the use of four M4 (# 8-32) screws.
Alternatively two mounting kits are available to allow the board mounting on a
standard top hat (T section) or omega (G section) DIN rail, (see chapter 5.3.2).

6 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
6.1 GENERAL
Field, control room, supply and alarm connections are made at the board terminal
blocks (or multiway connectors for custom type) located on either side of the
modules.
All electrical connections and wiring must be performed by qualified personnel and
must comply with the relevant national and international standards and installation
rules (e.g. BS 5345 Pt 4, CEI 64-2, DIN VDE-165 and ANSI/ISA RP-12.6)
applicable in the country of installation.
When properly installed, the modules will ensure that the safety of connected
intrinsically safe circuits is not impaired by fault conditions which could transfer a
dangerous level of energy into hazardous area circuits. See chapter 6.7 for other
informations about I.S. wiring.
Note: Instruction covering installation of customized boards are provided with the
units.

identification, if the color used is light blue and no other wiring is color coded light
blue. Other identification means may be for example: signs, tags, markings which
shall be visible after installation.
Wiring of intrinsically safe circuits shall be positively separated from non
intrinsically safe wiring (such as power wiring) by one of the following methods:
Using separated raceway.
Providing an insulating or grounded metal partition.
Spacing of at least 50 mm and separately tied down.
Different intrinsically safe circuits shall not be run in the same multiconductor cable
unless at least 0.25 mm thick insulation is used on each conductor.
Cables, raceways or conduits used to contain intrinsically safe circuits must not

The boards with the CW suffix are the cross wiring versions (Fig. 14 and 15).
They are provided in the safe area side with insulation displacement contacts (IDC)
for solid conductors from 0.4 to 0.65 mm (26 to 22 AWG), overall insulation 0.7
to 1.4 mm and accepts two wires max per terminal.
One 4 way block is provided adjacent to each module on the board (2 contacts for
each channel), they are marked A-B for ch.1 and C-D for ch. 2.
Another 4 way block per module marked AA-BB and CC-DD is provided, facing the
previous ones (near to the Safe Area terminals).
To cross connect the various signals, simply connect the wires from the various
modules to the assigned control room terminal by the use of the special tool
(Fig. 17) having care not to reverse their polarity. For example the A terminals must
always be connected to the AA or the CC ones respectively, no matter what their
position is (even to different termination boards). See schematic diagram at Fig. 8
and example Fig. 16 for reference.
FIG. 16
The cross wiring area cover carries a marking strip and forms an effective cable
raceway. With this option the mismatch between field and control room signal
sequence to DCS, can be resolved at the output side (Safe Area) of the Termination
Board. Cross wiring connection between the two rows of terminals can be made
with the ELCON wire available upon request (code No. 1303/CA) and tool
(code No. 1301/PZ).
The tool inserts and cuts the wire with a simple downward pressure (Fig. 17)
A small screw driver and a hook are provided on the tool to be used to disconnect
wire if necessary.
N.B. Cross wiring is suitable for use with all 1 and 2 channel modules, but check
the signal connections which are required to be made.

Connection Procedure:
Check the module terminal assignment by reference to the block diagrams in Fig. 12.
Connect the appropriate signal to the connector pin following the pin assignment
in Table 2 and connector Layout in Fig. 20. On the table, the columns called
Standard Terminal Reference are indicated, showing the terminal numbers for
the SAT and SACWT Board type (Terminals out) so that the channel function and
connections can be checked on the block diagrams at Fig. 12.
Plug the connector in the correct position on the board and secure it by the
locking screws.
Note: For the custom boards connection, having different connectors and
arrangement to satisfy the various DCS types and requirement, please refer to
the dedicated Product Support Note.

6.8.3 Connecting the CON plus HART versions (SACON-H and SACWCON-H)
These boards are provided with the same sub D 37 way female connectors used
on the non HART versions (see 6.8.2) and accept the two channel Analog I/O
modules only.
Follow the indications in chapter 6.8.2 and Table 2 for detailed informations and
Connection Procedure.
They can also be connected to the HART ability termination boards (i.e. the
2116/128-HART) by the two 34 way flat cable connectors for up to 16 channel

Hart Interface Solutions
1 INTRODUCTION
This appendix provides the required guidelines about the installation, usage and
maintenance as for the applicable HIS (HART Interface Solutions) termination
boards. The HIS boards make possible to easily integrate an Hart communication
capability on an existing system or installation.
HART is a digital communication protocol superimposed to a standard 4/20 mA
field loop, so to permit a wide set of configuration and maintenance activities on
the connected HART-compliant field device. The HART access is effectively obtained
by a 32-channel HART multiplexer which in turn connects with a PC running a
suitable, maintenance SW package.
We recommend to fully read this Appendix before installation, so to avoid any
possible damage or misbehaviour of the relevant units.
The Appendix organisation is as in the following:
section 2 is about the recommended acceptance procedure;
section 3 comprises a product description with all relevant specifications;
section 4 deals with the installation procedure;
section 5 describes the required electrical connections;
section 6 outlines the main troubleshooting within actions.
As a complement to the information provided this Appendix, please also refer to
the User Manual of the Mux2700 Hart Multiplexer module (IM-ENG-116/GB).
2 ACCEPTANCE PROCEDURE
When you receive the material, we recommend to immediately verify the package
and the content integrity. When any damage should be detected, please urgently
notify it with all the applicable ancillary information to the relevant delivery
service.
You should also check as soon as possible that the received material is in line with
your original order and with the real application requirements. When needed,
please urgently refer to your P+F contact point so that any required corrective
action can be immediately implemented.
When you store the material, please use the original package and check that it is
properly sealed. This is especially important for areas with relevant humidity,
temperatures or corrosive atmosphere. Strong mechanical stress or vibration should
also be avoided.

3 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
3.1 GENERAL FEATURES
Supply connection by screw terminals;
Supply is fuse protected and with LED indication;
Dedicated terminal to connect to earth the metal chassis;
Dedicated terminal to connect the RS485 communication cable shield;
RS485 interface terminals to communicate with the MUX2700 HART multiplexer
module;
Hart loop interface connectors (depending on version);
Optional DIN-rail mounting kit ( T or G rail mounting is possible).
The HIS boards make possible the remote monitoring of any HART- compatible
4/20 mA field-loop. This is obtained by one (or more) locally mounted HART
multiplexer modules (MUX2700) and by interface connectors to access the relevant
loops. Each MUX2700 plug-in module can manage up to 32 HART channels, with
optional Hart multi-drop capability.
Hot plug in is fully supported, you dont need to switch off the power supply to
insert/remove a MUX unit. The same is true as for the interface connectors used to
access the relevant Hart loops. The MUX2700 connects, via the RS485 interface,
with an external PC running a suitable maintenance SW package. Each PC can
communicate with many MUX2700, located on the same or on different HIS
boards, in a multi-drop RS-485 mode (each MUX 2700 must be set to a different
slave address). For all additional functional details about the MUX2700 module,
please refer to the relevant Instruction Manual (IM-ENG-116/GB). The HIS boards
are equipped with a rugged metal chassis to properly support and protect the
PCB (printed circuit board) and, when required, to permit an easy and reliable
DIN-rail mounting by the optional kits ( both top hat T-section and omega Gsection rails are supported).

When using the 2108/64-HART-F HIS board, you can directly use a FLAT pin-to-pin
cable to directly connect with many compatible HiD2000 Termination Boards.
Please contact P+F Elcon for more details.
FIG. H
6 TROUBLE-SHOOTING
On the board, check the supply LED (green); if the LED is off:
- check the supply voltage value and polarity
- check the protection fuse integrity
Measure the voltage level at the supply terminals,
(the acceptable range is from 20,4 Vdc to 30 Vcc)
On each Hart multiplexer module, check the supply LED (green); if the supply
voltage is O.K. and the LED is off, the Hart Multiplexer is faulty and must be
returned for repair.
For more detailed troubleshooting information about the Hart Multiplexer module,
please refer to the relevant Instruction Manual (IM-ENG-116/GB).
When you need to substitute the protection fuse, be sure to be in line with the
applicable specifications
N.B.: there is no serviceable part within the Hart Multiplexer module. Trying to
open it will likely damage the plastic enclosure and make any warranty null
and void.
