GKS(Global Korea Scholarship) Exchange Program

Application Guideline
This scholarship is sponsored by NIIED (National Institution for International Education of Korea).
Handong Global University will carefully choose applicants and nominate the designated
applicants to NIIED. After that, the final selection process will be made by NIIED.

Application Deadline January 21, 2015


By the deadline, submit scanned copy of application to exchange@handong.edu
Late application will not be accepted under any circumstances.
Selected students have to submit original application via Express Mail.

Selection Process & Schedule


1. Submit application to Handong via e-mail by the deadline (Jan 21)
2. Students selected by HGU will be informed to send original documents via Express Mail.
3. HGU will nominate selected students to government by Jan 23.
4. Final Selection by government will be noticed by Feb 10.

Scholarship Details
1. Scholarship Period: 2015 Spring Semester (one-semester program)
2. Scholarship Benefit

1) Roundtrip air fare: reimburse for actual expenses


* Air fare reimbursement cannot exceed the upper limit of each country.
(For detailed amount of reimbursement limit, refer to the attached file: upper limit of airfair.xls)
* The students have to submit the flight ticket and its receipt to Handong to get reimbursement.
* Air fare will not be provided in case it includes stop-over for personal reason.
* Any fees for the domestic traveling to and from Korea will not be compensated.

2) Monthly living expenses: KRW 800,000/month (March-June; for 4 months)


* For March and June, it will be paid only for the days the student actually stays in Korea.
* The dorm fee (~KRW 600,000/semester) will be deducted from the living expenses. Thus, students
will actually receive approximately KRW 640,000 every month in cash for the living expense.

3) Settlement aid at arrival: KRW 200,000 in cash


4) Health insurance fee: supports KRW 80,000 for the insurance (up to KRW 20,000/month)
* HGU-recommended health insurance plan costs KRW 100,000. It is the responsibility of
each exchange student to pay for the remaining fee (about KRW 20,000).
Tuition to Handong will be waived. However, all scholarship recipients should pay tuition
to their home university.

Eligibility

Must have a foreign citizenship; Korean citizenship holders (including dual citizen) cannot
apply

Currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing 4-year undergraduate degree and


completed at least 1 academic year (sophomore standing or higher)

Good academic standing at current university: at least 80% or higher

Never received any kinds of scholarship previously by Korean government

The prime consideration for this scholarship is applicants academic excellence as well as
their passion to study in Korea. And it would be ideal if nominees have certificate(s) of
reward for the academic competition or social activities.

1. Official Transcript (30 points)
- Applicant who has completed at least 1 academic year is eligible.
- Official transcript should include CGPA from ALL COURSES TAKEN.
- Grade will be assessed in terms of 100% scale. Refer to attached CGPA Conversion Table.

3. Study Plan (20 points)


- Submit 3 pages or more (using attached form1_Study Plan.doc)
- Write your signature next to your name.
- Describe your motivation for studying in Korea and study plan to complete this exchange
program successfully. Include your major and desired courses or subjects in Korea.
- You can attach relevant documents supporting your essay.
- By the policy of NIIED, applicants MUST NOT mention Korean university name (Handong)

4. Self-introductory Essay (20 points)


- Submit 3 pages or more (using attached form2_Self-introductory Essay.doc)
- Write your signature next to your name.
- Introduce yourself including extracurricular/voluntary activities youve done in the past. Also,
describe your future plan after completing this program and graduation.
- You can attach relevant documents supporting your essay.
- By the policy of NIIED, applicants MUST NOT mention Korean university name (Handong)

5. Recommendation Letter or Certificate(s) of Award (10 points)


- To evaluate the excellence of applicants capability
- Certificate(s) of awards for academic competition or social activities, issued by reputable
organization(s).

6. Photocopy of passport
- must be clear and legible (valid throughout the entire duration of stay)
