Exercise 6b):
Task

A 250 mm deep 6000 x 4000 mm wide rectangular slab is required to support

office loads.
fck = 30 MPa, fyk = 500 MPa.
Assume 300 mm wide supports, a 50-year design life and a requirement for
a 2-hour resistance to fre in an external but sheltered environment.

cdev = 10 mm

BS EN 1990
Exp. (6.10)

4. Load combination
Ultimate load, n
By inspection, Exp. (6.10) is critical.
n = 1.35 8.50kN / m2 + 1.5 4.0kN / m2 = 17.5 kN / m2
Arrangement
Choose to use all-and-alternate-spans-loaded load cases, i.e. use coefficients.
The use of Table 5.6 in BS EN 199212 is restricted to where redistribution
does not exceed 15%. (minimum cover for fre)
The coefficients used presume 0% redistribution at supports. As the amount of
redistribution is less than 20%, there are no restrictions on reinforcement grade.
