Course Description & Objectives


Our goal is to help improve your English knowledge and abilities. You will have the opportunity to
learn, practice, communicate, discuss, and raise questions about English in a friendly environment.
We will incorporate all four essential skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing). In addition to
the areas outlined below, you will be expected to share your own needs, ideas, and interests as we
shape this course together.
Course Structure
This class will consist of lesson in class, activities in pairs and class, discussion in groups and class,
individual work, and homework from the workbook.
Required Materials

Textbook: Stand Out 2 Standards-Based English (2002)


by Rob Jenkins and Staci Lyn Sabbagh Unit 5-8 (pp.61-160)

Workbook: Stand Out 2 Grammar Challenge (2002) Unit 5-8 (pp.33-64)

*Students should buy both of these books and bring them to the next class.
*TC bookstore can be located on the northwest corner of Amsterdam Avenue and 120th Street.
*We are not going to cover everything in these books.
*I will try to cover much of workbook in class. However, some may be done as homwork.

Class Policies & Student Responsibilities


1. Each student is responsible for class attendance and for all materials in the assigned homework.
Furthermore, students are expected to attend class on a regular basis. However, in the event of an
absence, it is the students responsibility to obtain any relevant information missed.
2. Attendance is expected for all classes. I reserve the right to lower your grade for excessive
absences.
3. Please try to arrive to class on time, such that class will be able to begin at 7:00 pm.
4. Respect for the instructor and fellow classmates is expected at all times. This includes respect for
gender, age, beliefs, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, heritage, political views, and any
other areas that may arise.
5. Please feel free to go to rest room. There is no recess during class. Please do come back.
