OPERATIONS:

Since my last newsletter, we have gone through

a few changes and made progress towards some
goals.
With the help of Less crew, we have continued
to renew our patrol squad room and evidence
intake area. Installation of our new evidence
locker system is done as is the configuration of
the room to be used as an evidence intake and
packaging area, a report preparation area, and
supervisory workspace. Last week, we installed
our new evidence tracking software on the
server and will be up and running very shortly.

COMMUNITY SERVICE:

Our staff participated in the Cloquet

Schools in-service training day in late
December. Information related to recent
trends in drug abuse was presented to
school staff in two one-hour sessions.
Detective Randall has been actively
engaged with the Carlton County Drug
Court Team. Recently he assisted in a
policy meeting and has been involved in
the weekly drug court process.
Next week I am attending a Minnesota
Housing Institute workshop as a first step
towards our participation on a local team
exploring issues and solutions to Cloquet
area housing needs.

We have begun ordering equipment to

outfit two of our newest vehicles for use
on the street. We will be rotating out our
oldest Ford sedan that has been starting to
fail mechanically.

As part of our staff development goals, we have

had some personnel movement in 2015.
Detective Holman along with his K-9 partner
Raja are now working with a patrol crew.
Holman brings years of experience as a detective
coupled with his success as a street supervisor
and we are looking forward to his integration
into a new team. Officer Scott Beckman has
been assigned to work alongside our Detectives
to take advantage of an opportunity to further
develop his investigative skills.

This week we had success using NIXLE

and Facebook to solve a crime that
occurred at a convenience store in
Scanlon. An image was captured on video
of an unidentified woman stealing a wallet
from the counter in the store. After the
photo was put out on our social media
outlets, the suspect was quickly identified
and located in Duluth. The case is still
under investigation and charges are
pending.
Have a great weekend!

Chief of Police
