Introduction
Welcome to KEYWIN
We are confident that KEYWIN will greatly increase your productivity.
Have you ever thought about how much time you are WASTING by not regularly using keyboard
shortcuts on your computer? The result about how much time you are likely wasting per year will blow
your mind. Most people lose an average of 2 seconds per minute of work by switching back & forth from
their mouse instead of using the analogous keyboard shortcut. Learning just this single shortcut could
save you several cumulative hours over the course of a year. Time you can save is approximately
8 Days per Year

Thats right. If your job requires you to be working on a computer throughout each standard 8-hour
workday, then using keyboard shortcuts can save you 8 entire workdays every year. This is equal to
3.3% of your total productivity. Heres a quick derivation of this figure:
While above fact is about using general keyboard shortcuts, KEYWIN let you define your own keyboard
shortcuts to perform activities for which perhaps no keyboard shortcuts are defined yet (e.g. adjusting
volume, launching applications, files, folders, website and many more) and thereby let you save more time and
increase your productivity.
What is KEYWIN?
KEYWIN is productivity tool and keyboard utility software (made for Windows OS) with an ability to
program various actions to keyboard keys and execute these when pressed in combination with
Windows Key , thereby saving your time on performing complicated and/or repetitive actions.
E.g. you can open Calculator by pressing +C instantly or open Google website just by pressing + G.
KEYWIN also offers outstanding features like Virtual Desktops, On-Demand and Automatic Power Saving
feature, well organized screenshots folder and an Innovative Battery Gauge for battery operated
computers like laptops, notebooks.
Why you should use KEYWIN?

There is always a need to instantly open frequently used applications, files, folders and websites and to
perform repetitive tasks like adjusting volume of speakers, taking screenshots, turning off monitor when
stepping away or even sending same reply (with attachments) to number of recipients.
What if you get a power to assign these complicated / repetitive actions to your keyboard keys only
once and perform these again and again or whenever you want just by pressing a key?
KEYWIN gives you that exact power. So next time you may
- open MS Excel by pressing +X and MS Word by pressing +W,
- increase and decrease speaker volume by pressing +} and +{ and Mute by pressing +Backspace.

More Desktops in one computer

With many open applications taskbar usually get overcrowded. KEYWIN offers 3 virtual desktops in
addition to the default real desktop and thereby you have total 4 desktops with choice to open different
application in different desktops.
Secure your workstation and go GREEN

KEYWIN has an ability to turn off the monitor (one of most power consuming resource) of computer in
few seconds after workstation locked and/or after screensaver started. We recommend you to enable
these options if you wish to contribute to energy saving and thereby to the GREEN environment.
Note: This option offers a good battery time for battery operated computers like laptops, notebooks.
Take Rapid Screenshots

With KEYWIN you can take rapid screenshots of your screens (multiple monitors) and automatically save
these to an organized folder with date and time. So you just need to press a key to take screenshot
without worrying about it getting saved. Very useful to record on screen shared contents via online
meetings.
Battery Gauge (for laptops and notebooks)

KEYWINs Innovative Battery Gauge, displayed at bottom of the screen below task bar, let you monitor
ongoing state of your battery. Thus you can hide traditional battery status icons from taskbar and make
more room for open applications.
Make window topmost

With KEYWIN you can make any window topmost i.e. make window float on top of other windows. E.g.
you will always like the Calculator or Stock Market Meter to be always top of other windows.
*One topmost window will go behind or come forth to another topmost window.
Make window Transparent

This feature can let you make your window transparent and see through it. Useful when you prefer to
look through certain window all the time.
These are yet more features ahead, read rest of this manual for more information.

Installation
Prerequisites:
Purchase valid OTP for KEYWIN.

KEYWIN Setup file (Installation CD-ROM or download latest setup from KEYWIN website)
Internet connection to visit KEYWIN website www.activatekeywin.com for activation.
Windows Operating System (Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows 7 / Windows 8)
You can get the Setup file either through Setup CD-ROM or from KEYWIN website using OTP.
Note: Setup CD-ROM is optional with purchase. Download latest version from KEYWIN website.
To download KEYWIN SETUP follow the steps:
1. Keep OTP handy

& Visit www.activatekeywin.com
2. Enter OTP and verification code

and click on SUBMIT button.
3. Now you get access to download

latest KEYWIN setup by clicking
Click to DOWNLOAD KEYWIN
This downloads Setup.exe file.
4. To install run Setup.exe

To install KEYWIN on your computer follow the installation steps:

Insert Setup CD-ROM (Optional) in CD Drive - OR - Download Setup.exe file from website.
NOTE: It is recommended that you close all other applications while installing KEYWIN
1. To install KEYWIN run Setup.exe file.
2. Choose installation directory for KEYWIN.
3. Select Program Group for KEYWIN.
4. KEYWIN Installed successfully.
5. Find KEYWIN in Start menu and run it from

there. It will auto start next time.

Activating KEYWIN
After KEYWIN installed it needs to be activated to use. Keep OTP (One Time Password) handy. Further
visit www.activatekeywin.com and follow the activation procedure explained below:
1. Click on KEYWIN icon in system tray.

2. This opens Activation screen which displays the

PRODUCT KEY and ready to accept Activation Key to
activate KEYWIN.
Find Product Key here
Enter Activation Key here
3. Keep OTP and Product Key handy

& Visit www.activatekeywin.com
4. Enter OTP and verification code

and click on SUBMIT button.
5. Enter the Product Key, Verification

Code and click on SUBMIT button.
CAUTION: 0 may sound like O
To be accurate, you may copy
Product Key (Press Ctrl+C on your
keyboard to copy) and Paste
(press Ctrl+V on your keyboard to
paste) to website.

6. You will get the Activation Key.
Click on PRINT button to print the
activation key or note it down.
You may use last page of this
manual to record Product Key and
Activation Key.
7. Now we activate KEYWIN.

Input the Activation key to
KEYWIN activation screen and you
can see ACTIVATE button enabled.
NOTE: You must click on text box
before type in.
8. Click on ACTIVATE button to
activate KEYWIN.
9. Now your KEYWIN is activated and READY to use. Factory setting is applied by default.

Using KEYWIN
Now you are ready to use KEYWIN and program the keys as per your
requirement.
Click on KEYWIN icon in system tray to show or hide.

Right click on KEYWIN icon in system tray to see menu. You can choose Enable
or Disable from this menu to start or stop functioning of KEYWIN respectively.
KEYWIN is enabled by default when installed.
Note: If you do not see KEYWIN functioning this is the option to check for.
Following is screenshot of KEYWIN (i.e. with factory settings).
Keys highlighted in WHITE are not available (i.e. reserved by Operating System or other applications) while in
YELLOW are available to program and PINK are already programmed keys which can be customized again. Keys
highlighted in GREEN are lock keys viz. Caps Lock, Num Lock and Scroll Lock. If you program these and use, the
lock will toggle i.e. if lock is off it will get on and vice versa while executing action assigned.
Button bar can launch System Commands (viz. Shutdown, Restart, Logoff, Switch User, Standby and Hibernate)
and MS Office applications (viz. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) and CD Player (viz. Eject, Previous Track,
Play, Pause, Stop and Next Track). To use button bar you need to open KEYWIN by clicking icon in system tray.
Reset to Factory Setting will clear existing settings of Keys and set as per factory setting.
Click Recommend to Friend button to share this amazing app with your friends. This will auto compose an
email message and you just need to type email addresses of contacts to whom you wish to send and share.
Click Quick View button to see an All-In-One snapshot of keys assignment in one window.

Click Settings button to see setting for KEYWIN. Refer the related topic further for detailed information.
You can program the key for four different tasks.
By default key is disabled and set to None. To program a key you need to assign task to it and Enable the key.
Four different tasks which can be programmed for a key are
1. Shortcut - You can open designated file/ URL / folder by pressing +Key.
Shortcut has three types i.e. shortcut to open a. File
b. Web URL
c. Folder
2. Command (48 Built-in) - You can run assigned command by pressing +Key.
3. Text - You can insert assigned Plain Text by pressing +Key.
e.g. You can assign your full signature to a key and insert it into appropriate email messages by pressing
+Key.
4. Object - You can insert assigned Object (i.e. formatted text, image) by pressing +Key.
e.g. You can assign attachment and image with formatted text to a key and insert it in word document or
email message by pressing +Key.
Note: Although you can program all four tasks for a key, only the one selected will be actionable at a time.
Lets learn Programming Keys with KEYWIN in next chapter.

Programming Keys with KEYWIN

You can program a key which is available (highlighted in yellow) in KEYWIN as well as you can re-program
keys which are already programmed (highlighted in pink)
Note: Keys highlighted in WHITE are not available as these are used or blocked by other applications or
Windows operating system.
Following steps will guide you on how to program / re-program key by assigning tasks
Shortcut
1. Shortcut File
With this feature you can open any designated file by pressing +Key
In this example we will program a new key A to open an excel file named Budget Sep 2014.xlsx which
is located in path C:\Finance\PersonalFinance\Personal Monthly Budget
1. In KEYWIN window click

existing path. Select YES to overwrite.
4. Next you see a dialog box asking Select shortcut type.

When you press +A key combination

Monthly Budget opens instantly.
Similarly you can program the key to open other files, applications, Web URL and save your time on drilling
down through folders every moment.
So next time when you want to open your that special file, just assign it to a key with KEYWIN and open

instantly pressing key.
2. Shortcut Web URL

With this feature you can open the assigned web URL by pressing +Key combination. In this example we
will re-program key A to open KEYWINs facebook URL http://www.facebook.com/Keywinsoftware.
Refer Shortcut File procedure and follow
Steps 1 to 4 (Page 12).
5. Select Web URL and you will be
prompted if you want to select Internet
Explorer Favorites.
6. In this case select NO since we will enter
the web URL manually.
7. Next an input dialog box will open asking you to enter
the Web Address (URL)
8. Enter http://www.facebook.com/Keywinsoftware
URL in input box and click OK.
Now you can see the KEYWIN facebook link/URL in text box and
when you press +A key combination KEYWINs facebook page
opens up instantly (if your computer is connected to internet).
Similarly you can open reoccurring Live/Lync Meeting links, any
web link (especially those which you visit frequently) instantly by
pressing key.
E.g. you can open www.google.com by pressing +G
Now your favorite websites are at your fingertips.

3. Shortcut Folder
With this feature you can open any assigned (local or network) Folder instantly by pressing +Key
In this example we will program key A to open folder Personal Monthly Budget
Folder Path : C:\Finance\PersonalFinance\Personal Monthly Budget
Refer previous Shortcut File procedure and follow Step 1 to 4 (Page 12)
5. Choose Select Folder option and

Browse for Folder dialog box will
open to select the folder
6. Select the folder Personal Monthly
Budget in Browse for Folder
window and then select OK.
Now you can see the folder path

C:\Finance\PersonalFinance\Personal Monthly Budget
in the text box.
When you press +A key combination the Personal
Monthly Budget folder opens.
Thus, Shortcut option helps you to program a key to instantly open Files, Web URLs and folders. It is
recommended to program shortcut for the files, URLs and folders which you explore frequently. This
helps to save time and reduce clutter of icons on your desktop and also ensure confidentiality of files,
URLs, folders to some extent.

Command
KEYWIN has 48 build in commands offering multimedia features which can be assigned to a key and
executed upon pressing +Key. In this example we will try to program key N to execute Notepad
command.
1. Open KEYWIN window and click on N key or press N
key on keyboard and the configuration window will
open showing task options.
2. Click on the adjacent dropdown box to select the
Notepad command as shown in the figure.
3. Once you are done, you can launch the NOTEPAD
application instantly by pressing +N.

Special commands are highlighted in grey color and we recommend you to use these to enhance your performance.
* Indicates group commands and advised to use together e.g. when you increase transparency you also will need to decrease transparency.

Text
Many a times there is a need to insert a same text frequently. E.g. formatted word KEYWIN entered
frequently in this manual. Similarly with this feature you can assign plain text (i.e. non-formatted text) to
a key and insert the same text by pressing +Key wherever cursor is placed.
In this example we try to program key / by assigning text and insert it into Notepad.
1. Open KEYWIN window and click on / key and the configuration panel will open showing task
options. Check Enable Key option and select radio button Text.
2. Enter or paste text into textbox. If text is large and does not fit in the textbox, click on Expand the
Text Box to edit or view the text in Object Editor.
Press +/ combination to insert an assigned text at cursor position which can be document, email and
web page. Thus text (like signature, mail body, email-ids list,) can be entered repetitively.
Note: It is recommended not to assign huge amount of text to Text option instead you can use Object.

Object
Object is same as that of Text and can be used in similar fashion. However Text option can be used for
non-formatted text whereas Object can contain formatted text as well as objects like attachment,
pictures, file etc.
In this example we try to re-program key / to assign text an object i.e. email content with attachment
and insert it in new email.
1. Open KEYWIN window and click on / key, the configuration window will open showing task
options. Check Enable Key option and select radio button Object.
2. Enter or copy paste the object (in this case a message containing formatted text, picture and an
attachment) into text box. If content is large and does not fit in the text box, click on Expand the
Text Box to edit or view the object in Object Editor.

Using Quick View

The Quick View Window can be Opened from KEYWIN Menu.
You get a snap of many keys at a time and see if key is enabled /
disabled or what is assigned to the key.
You can double click on an item in the list and open the configuration
setting for that key.
Below is sample view you can see how the keys are programmed.
TIP:
To figure out the existing key configuration just
move the mouse pointer over key and a tooltip
appears showing details.
e.g. In adjacent image we can see tooltip for key N, which has command Notepad is assigned.

KEYWIN Settings
Click on Settings button to view / modify KEYWIN Settings
Save Transparency Settings

KEYWIN has ability to change the Transparency of windows and it also
can remember it for future. Check this option to save transparency
setting for window, next time whenever you launch that particular
window individual transparency setting is applied automatically.
Calculator made Transparent
Assume a situation when you need to refer one window and

with that reference need to work in other window. So rather
toggling between windows you can just increase
transparency of the topmost window.
In this example we increased the Transparency of Calculator
application. You can look through Calculator.
If Save Transparency Settings is checked. Next time
Calculator will open with its own transparency level.
Different windows can have different transparency levels
(i.e. more or less transparent) as assigned by user and
KEYWIN can remember it for you.
Save Top Position Window Settings
Calculator made Topmost
KEYWIN has ability to make window topmost among rest of

the windows. Check this option to save Top Position setting
for window, next time whenever you launch that particular
window Top Position setting is applied automatically.
In this example we made Calculator Topmost window. As
an evidence you can see calculater floating on top of start
menu bar and also while Document options selected in
previouse windows explorer.
If Save Top Position Window Settings is checked. Next time
Calculator will open as topmost window.
You can set window to topmost as many as you can and KEYWIN can remember it for you. This setting is
useful when you want certain windows to float on top of all windows. E.g Chat window.
Note :
Topmost and Transparency settings can be applied together to a window. e.g. Calculator in above case.

Turn Off monitor on workstation lock

This is GREEN* feature of KEYWIN. Why we call it GREEN
because it saves power. Check this option, if you want KEYWIN
to turn off monitory (only) after you lock your workstation.
Turn Off monitor on screensaver start

This is another GREEN* feature of KEYWIN. Check this option if
you want KEYWIN to turn off monitory (only) after screensaver
starts.
We recommend you to use these GREEN options and
contribute to the green environment by saving power.
*GREEN because it helps to save the power by turning off monitor automatically which is one of the
biggest power consuming unit of any computer system and for laptops saving power increases the
battery backup time.
So with KEYWIN next time whenever you lock your workstation you are saving some power and
contributing towards the green environment.
Enable Virtual Desktop (MORE DESKTOPs)

KEYWIN offers an excellent feature of virtual desktops i.e. your real desktop PLUS 3 more Virtual
Desktops. Benefit of Virtual Desktops is you can run different applications in different desktops e.g. you
can open work related windows in one desktop and social networking window in other desktop. You can
switch between these desktops with key-press or selecting the desktop of choice from KEYWIN Menu.
Thus Virtual desktop offers an ability to segregate windows among desktops, ensure privacy of your
work to some extent and optimum use of your computer system.
Gather windows from all desktops by selecting Gather Desktops option in KEYWIN menu.
Lets understand with example (You may assign Virtual Desktop commands to keys of your choice.)
1.
By default you are into Real Desktop. Right click on

KEYWIN icon to confirm. Open MS Word.
2.
Right click on KEYWIN icon and select Virtual Desktop 2 from

menu. Open MS Excel. You can see that MS Word running in
Real Desktop is not visible (it is still running).

3.
Right click on KEYWIN icon, select Virtual Desktop 3

from menu. Open MS PowerPoint.
You can notice that MS Word running in Real
Desktop and MS Excel running in Virtual Desktop 2
is not visible (these are still running).
4.
Right click on KEYWIN icon, select Virtual Desktop 4 from

menu. Open Notepad.
You can notice that MS Word running in Real Desktop and
MS Excel running in Virtual Desktop 2 and MS PowerPoint
running in Virtual Desktop 3 is not visible (these are still
running).
5.
Now we go back to Real Desktop and select Gather Desktops from menu. This will gather (consolidate) all open
applications from other desktops together. You can see that MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and Notepad from different
desktops together.
Note: Some exceptional applications may remain visible in all or few desktops
Auto start next time

If you want KEYWIN to auto start every time you start computer.
Do check this box in Settings.

Using Battery Gauge

KEYWIN has innovative visual battery gauge which can be found out right below the task bar, a thin strip
having gradient of RED, YELLOW and GREEN color. Width of gauge represents the percentage battery
charged. i.e. when width of battery gauge is same as that of screen, battery is 100% charged.
Gradient color in gauge describes the urgency of charging your computer.
Until gauge ends with GREEN color you are good without charging. Refer above image.
When gauge ends with YELLOW color, you still have sufficient battery and it is good to charge.

When gauge ends with RED color, you are very close to drain out your battery anytime and you must
charge immediately. Refer above image
NOTE: Battery gauge will be shown automatically for battery operated computers like notebook /
laptop. However it will not be shown for desktop computers which do not have internal battery.

FAQs
1. How can I get started KEYWIN?
Purchase OTP for KEYWIN. Use OTP to download KEYWIN Setup files, Install and activate KEYWIN.
2. What is OTP?
OTP stands for One Time Password.
OTP can be used only once and expires after it is used to get the Activation Key.
3. How can I get OTP for KEYWIN?
You need to purchase OTP from KEYWIN website or from appropriate vendor.
4. Do I get KEYWIN installation CD while purchasing OTP?
Installation CD is optional. We recommend downloading latest setup file from KEYWIN website.
5. How to get Setup file for KEYWIN?

6. I used my OTP to download KEYWIN setup file, Can I still get Activation Key later?
Yes, your OTP is valid until you use it to get the Activation Key.
7. How to get Product Key for KEYWIN?
Install and run KEYWIN. Click on keyboard icon in System Tray to get the Product Key. Refer Step 1
and 2 in Chapter Activating KEYWIN in this manual.
8. Do I need to retain the Activation Key?
Yes. You may need it in future when you install KEYWIN on same System with same Windows OS.
Note: DGM and Eaglesoft do not guaranty that the activation key can always work in future.
9. Can I resell my KEYWIN Single User License?

No. KEYWIN Single User License is not transferable.
10. Why numbers of HOTKEYs differ on different system?
KEYWIN offers you all available hotkeys on your system.
Numbers of available hotkeys are different on different systems and operating systems.
11. What are the Operating Systems supported?
KEYWIN is made for Windows Operating System.
