Among the benefits of working
on a political campaign, according to Sarani, is learning about
the process and about the issues in
the election.
I think participation is very
important, especially in campaigns because for me you dont
really understand whats going on
or all the work that goes on behind
the scenes in a campaign, Surani
said. And just by participating
you learn so much about the issues, you learn so much about the
cause and how to interact with
people and how to really get the
message out.
Another benefit that Orvis

people.
I think my favorite thing
wasit was definitely the people, Orvis said. When you walk
into the Nunn office, it looks exactly like you would expect like
a grassroots political campaign
to look, pretty much just a really large room with some folding
tables set up with a lot of phones
and its really great to see so many
people throughout the community of very, very different social status coming in to work to achieve
one goal.
One of the big issues in the
race, especially college students,
according to Surani is college tuition prices.
I know last semester she came
and had a talk about college affordability and making the financial aid system easier to understand college debt is a problem
right now and I think Georgia

Surani said.

Tech creates Bicycle Master Plan NSA Director answers security, privacy questions
SHASHANK SINGH
CONTRIBUTING WRITER
In response to a greater number of bikers on campus, Capital
Planning and Space Management
(CPSM) has come up with a Bicycle Master Plan that will aim to
address all of these growing issues.
One of the main goals is to revamp the bicycle lanes to make it
easier for bikers. This will involve
improving existing bike lanes adding new ones on major roads such
as Ferst Drive and at key intersections such as at Ferst and Fowler.
When going down Fifth
Street, students on bikes will
sometimes go faster than cars and
this can lead to some serious accidents if the cars arent aware of
their presence, said CPSM Senior
Educational Facilities Planner and
Landscape Architect, Jason K.
Gregory.
The plan will also add more
bike racks near campus buildings.
We just finished adding some
bike racks at Towers and are currently adding them at Glenn,
said Howard Wertheimer, Director of Capital Planning and Space
Management.
In addition to the physical
improvements, there will also be
some institutional improvements
such as educational pieces on
proper biking regulations and the
introduction of dismount zones.
Students will try to weave
through high density of pedestrians and this may sometimes
lead to accidents, Gregory said.

Students and professors lined

He urged the audience to, for the

This year, Tech is changing-up the location of the annual Freshman Cake Race as
an effect of increased concern for students
safety. Though a select group of students
may protest, ultimately, there will not be a
large reaction to the changing of Tech traditions until there is a cultural shift among
students.
In certain contexts, the need for changes
or altogether elimination of certain Tech
traditions has been justifiable. Take for example both drown proofing and stealing
the T. These kinds of traditions posed too
great of a risk to students health for them
to continue onward.
That being said, the Freshman Cake

Having an interest in vampires
is not uncommon now-in-days.
Teenage girls have screamed over
these sometimes sparkly and usually pale creatures, while braver
souls have time and time again
lined up to see the new Dracula or
Salems Lot.
But few people can claim they
have met, or even come in contact
with, actual self-identified vampires.
Professor John Edgar Browning, however, is that exception.
Known as a vampire expert by
many, Prof. Browning studied
self-identified vampires in New
Orleans as a PhD student at Louisiana State University.
What was supposed to be a
class project turned into two years
of extensive research. Browningmade special point to explain that
real vampires dont sparkle in the
sun like Edward Cullen nor are
they immortal as the media portrays them to be.
What is true is that vampires
take either blood or energy from
people.
Browning went on to justify,
They do so out of a need which
they say is natural. And that if
they dont do that, their bodies
dont produce what they call basic
subtle energies to keep themselves
revitalized.
Browning explained that there
are different kinds of vampires.
The first kind is Sanguian vampires who drink human or animal
blood.
There are also psychic vampires

Turn your nose up at dry, tasteless sandwiches reminiscent of a

No longer will you have to

will learn how to make an Instagram-worthy sandwich that tastes
as good as it looks.
FORGET THE WONDER BREAD
Trade in unshapely, bagged
bread for some freshly baked
loaves from the bakery section.
Changing the base of the sandwich not only will add unique flavor dependent on type (rye, sourdough, Italian, brioche, pita, etc.)
but is also sturdier and denser
than mass-produced kind, which
will prevent sandwich leakage or
breakage.
Although the uninspired bread
might last slightly longer and averages fifty cents cheaper than its
in-store-made counterparts, the
cost-benefit taste and durability
tradeoff is worth the switch.
SELECT A SPREAD
Completely dry sandwiches
can be like sandpaper to your

Want to add dimension without too much physical dimension? Stick a basic salad dressing

If you prefer something creamier, look into individually packed

The Georgia Tech Table Tennis Association, better known as
GTTTA, is excited to kick off the
new season. Many changes have
occurred this season that will help
the table tennis team this season.
GTTTA has won seven
straight Georgia college table tennis championships.
The exciting stuff this semester compared to semesters past is
league night and the new coach,
explained fourth year CMPE and
President of GTTTA, Kyle Post.
League night has become a
very important and popular part
of GTTTA this year. League
night and GTTTA practices are
open for all to check out to test
their skills against the top table
tennis players at the school.
The idea with league nights is
that you are placed in groups of
a similar rating, Post said. On
nights like that, we can handle up
to 20 players per night and have
four groups of five. Each group
will be of similar skill level. You
get a chance to move up if you
win your table. If you show up
the next week, you will have the
chance to move up and be seated
at the next level.
GTTTA holds practice three
times a week and is devoted to
helping interested players improve
their skills.
League nights give players the
opportunity to get in extra practice and the motivation to move
their table tennis game to the next
level.
During the first weekend of
November, Tech table tennis fans
will get to see if all GTTTAs
practice has paid off.
It will be an especially packed
weekend for the team: with back
to back tournaments on the first
and second of November.
On Nov. 1, GTTTA is playing in the AGTTAs Giant Round
Robin which is sponsored by the
Atlanta Georgia Table Tennis Association and is an offical USATT
tournament.
The GTTTA hosted their weekly league night this past Thursday on the fourth floor of the CRC.
League night is open to anyone to play and challenge the best table tennis players on campus.

well and currently has over 15,000
attendees each year.

The Jackets mens basketball
team comes into the 2014-2015
season with major changes to its
roster. Gone are Trae Golden,
Daniel Miller, Kammeon Holsey
and Robert Carter Jr., four key
players for Tech last season.
They were in the top five on
the team for scoring average and
in the top six for minutes played.
But with Golden, Miller, and
Holseys NCAA eligibility ending
and Carter Jr.s transfer, the Jackets have some big holes to fill.
Head Coach Brian Gregory
will have four returning Jackets
with significant experience from
last season. Junior forward Marcus Georges-Hunt, who was second on the team in points and
first in minutes last season, junior
guard Chris Bolden, and redshirt
sophomore guard Corey Heyward
are the three remaining players
who started games for Tech.
Sophomore forward Quinton
Stephens is the other returning
Jacket who received significant
minutes last year. While this lack
of experience may be a cause for
concern, Coach Gregory has a
lot more to work with thanks to
the addition of three experienced
transfer players.
Redshirt senior Robert Sampson is one of those transfer players,
and the most experienced of the
group. Sampson transferred from
East Carolina University, where
he made 52 starts and 96 appear-

Coach Paul Johnson leads the team onto the field in a game versus Florida State. Johnson, who
calls plays for the offense, has been the mastermind behind Techs offensive success this season.
