Operations & Wellsite Geology Short Course:

A large amount of geological data is acquired at substantial cost during a drilling operation. Ensuring
optimal quality of this data and its effective reporting plays a key role during well design and drilling
operations, and later use of this data in field studies.
A key requirement for success is close cooperation between geological, drilling and engineering
functions. This course provides a thorough overview of wellsite data acquisition and quality control.
Participants will learn the techniques used by Wellsite Geologists, Logging Geologists (mudloggers) and
Operations Geologists functions through interactive lectures that are integrated with practical exercises.
Participants will also gain anunderstanding of the application of wellsite data in exploration and
development.

Date: 21st -24th July, 2014

Duration: 4 days
Cost: $2200US; Students (Undergraduate Special Price): $1000US
Venue: UWI Petroleum Geosciences Unit, St Augustine Campus
Target Group: Entry level and Junior (1-3 years experience) Geoscientists working in oil and gas
companies, service companies and the MEEA. The course is designed for persons slightly familiar with
the basics of hydrocarbon exploration and development who want to improve their understanding of
wellsite geological operations and teaches the fundamentals elements of mudlogging, wellsite geology
and operations geology. It will give the participants valuable insight into the process of wellsite data
acquisition, the value of the data and also its limitations. The course assumes a basic knowledge of rigs,
drilling activities and the personnel involved in these activities.
