Why Option Football?

Option football fits the type of kids at
Cherokee. When Cherokee has been
successful in the past the option has been a
part of that success.
As a defensive coach the option helps the
defense by shorting the game and keeping
the other offense off the field.
Option helps us to become physical as a
team.

Why Option Football?

It helps our offense by slowing down the
speed of defenses and forcing them to play
assignment football. Thus allowing us to
not block their best players, but instead read
them.
We dont need real good offensive linemen.
We can adjust to whatever the defense does

Reasons for lack of

Success
They dont commit to it!
For us 60% option, 30% I plays, and 10% play
action

They become bored with it!

They are afraid that the QB will get hurt!
They do not have enough play action passes

Positions
QB- Heady/Smart, good manager of the offense
FB-Tough, can explode off the ball.
Z Back- Just as important as our QB; good
blocker that can determine the #2 read and pass
catcher
Tail Back- Believe in the Play Pitch
Relationship
Wide Outs-Good Stalk blockers
OL- Tough/Scrappy and a bit mean. Quick off the
ball!

Triple Option or Veer

We are looking for the open B gap.
#1 Read- First down lineman head up or outside
the Tackle to the play side.
You must know who on the defense is the dive,
QB, and Pitch player
Who is the deep defender during play action
