For this task I asked 4 females with an interest in pop music and what they would
prefer to be in a pop music magazine. I then summarised these results to find
out what would best suit my target audience.
The 4 girls I asked were all interested in pop music
Anneya Sadler, Sophie Hughes, Abigail and Gabbie Atwal
I asked them 11 questions and wrote down their main responses.
Summary of results:
1) Which magazine name do you prefer: Chart Toppers or Pop till you drop?
From my results the focus group showed the 4 girls I asked interested in
pop music all said they preferred the name Chart Toppers instead of Pop
till you drop. Therefore I will use Chart Toppers as my magazine name.
2) Do you listen to capital radio and do you enjoy listening to that type of
music?
All 4 girls I asked listen to capital radio and enjoy listening to the type of
music that features on it which is mostly new/chart music. This suggests
that I should use this type of music/artists/bands in my magazine as the
target audience is interested in it and therefore would be more likely to
buy my magazine.
3) Would you be interested in buying a pop music magazine?
All of the girls I asked said they would be interested in buying a pop music
magazine that I have created and therefore I will aim my magazine at this
audience white, 16-17 year old girls.
4) Would you be willing to pay 1-2.99 for a pop music magazine?
All the girls I asked said they were willing to pay 1-2.99 as they thought
that was a reasonable price for a music magazine and therefore my
magazine will cost 2.
5) Why do you like listening to pop music?
Anneya said it was relatable to listen to and pop music is often about
teenagers can relate to as the artists write songs about personal
experiences meaning the lyrics mean something to both the listener and
artist.
6) What artists/groups would you like to see featuring in the magazine?
The girls I asked said they would like to see new artists and chart music in
my magazine as thats the music they are most interested in.
7) What colour scheme would be most appropriate to use for a pop music
magazine aimed at girls 13-18 years old?
Gabbie said bright pinks and purples/pastel colours would be most
appropriate for a girls magazine as these colours are often associated with
girls. These colours would appeal to girls and catch the eye of the target
