Course Objective:

To
develop
a
basic
understanding
of
data
communication techniques and their implementations
in networks and The Internet.
At the end of the course the students are supposed to
have grasped the fundamentals of network and
communication
protocols
and
basic
network
components used for data communication in LANs,
WANs and the Internet.
Instructions:
1. Presented below is a tentative lecture breakdown meant to
serve as a guide line for the pre-lecture study of topics by the
students.
2. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of the class.

General rules and code of conduct expected of the students:

Regularity and Punctuality will not be compromised at any cost. A


student has to be present in the lecture room before the attendance is called
upon. Student entering the class after the roll call has been made would be
marked as absent.
A thought provoking, friendly environment is desired in the class. Discussions
on the lecture at appropriate intervals are highly desirable and encouraged.
Any mode and medium of communication is welcomed. All of this is
supposed to comply by the rules and disciplinary requirements maintained
by the university.

Quizzes are surprise tests and can be conducted at any time without
prior information to the students.
The final exam will NOT be descriptive in nature and will comprise of
analytical questions/Blanks to be filled-in/MCQs requiring contemplation and
numerical analysis. The students, therefore, are relieved form memorizing
the topics word by word. Instead the emphasis is on digesting the concept in
full and it is expected of the students to be able to improvise their knowledge
in their examinations.
