Explore Multisensory Perception and Spiritual Partnership

With Gary Zukav

Gary Zukav is the author of The Dancing Wu Li Masters: An Overview of
the New Physics and The Seat of the Soul. He has been on The Oprah
Winfrey Show numerous times, and as you will see, there is good reason
so many people are grateful for his work.
GZ: We are experiencing the birth of a new species. From an evolutionary point of
view, its happening very fast. It will be complete within only several human
generations. Now is the beginning. The only other event in the history of humanity
that matches this one in its magnitude is the first genesis the creation of
humanity. We are now experiencing the creation of a new humanity. This new
species is being born inside you, inside me and inside the readers of this interview.
It is emerging inside each of us, one by one.
There have always been authentically empowered multisensory humans. Every
religion is named after one. And there have always been cultures based on
multisensory perception. Native cultures, for example, recognize the relationship
between the seen and the unseen worlds. But never before has our entire species
shifted from one that is limited to the perceptions of the five senses to one that is
not. Multisensory perception (the ability to see more than the five senses can
detect) is emerging spontaneously in every culture, age-grouping, both sexes, and
at every economic level.
It is the birth of a species that is no longer limited to the perception of
the five senses and that understands through the heart, rather than the
intellect.
G: What is a multisensory human?
GZ: A multisensory human is a human that is not limited to the five senses. The five
senses together form a single sensory system. The object of detection of that
system is physical reality. That was sufficient and appropriate for our evolution until
this point. Now we are developing a second sensory system. That second system is
intuition. Intuition and multisensory perception are the same. Multisensory
perception is a more accurate term because the word intuition for many people only
means having hunches.
Multisensory perception is the voice of the nonphysical world.
- Gary Zukav
Multisensory perception is more than that. It is also resonating with the idea that
you are more than a mind and a body, that you are a soul, and that there is a
difference between your personality and your soul. Your personality is your mind,
your body and your intuitional structure. Your soul is that part of you that existed
before you were born and that will exist after you die. It is that part of you that
longs for harmony, cooperation, sharing and reverence for life. As you create your
life with those intentions, you align yourself with your soul. Your experience
becomes one of continual gratitude and joy, even when things are difficult.
Multisensory perception is awareness from a soul level.
From the perspective of a multisensory personality, you can see your life in the
context of a larger, unfolding picture that includes experiences that occurred before
you were born. You can see, from this larger perspective, that your life is attempting

to lead you in the direction your soul wants you to move toward greater
awareness and freedom.
Multisensory perception is realizing that the experiences in your life are not random.
They are purposeful and meaningful. Each one holds an enormous potential for the
expansion of your consciousness. Each one is tailored exquisitely for you. Every
circumstance that you encounter is the best circumstance possible for your spiritual
growth, given the wisdom of the choices that you have made. And, every
circumstance serves equally all involved. You will never find, for example, people
acting as stage props solely to assist you in your spiritual growth. All are served
equally.
Every time you make a decision, you create consequences, whether you are aware
of them or not.
- Gary Zukav
G: So how does creativity relate to the soul?
GZ: The Soul is purely creative. In every moment it is creative. You are creative in
every moment. Every time you make a decision, you create consequences, whether
you are aware of them or not. When you are conscious, what you create wont
surprise you. When you create unconsciously, you create painfully.
G: So you are saying people are powerful creators and now its time to be
positive conscious creators?
GZ: Correct. The first step in this process is to develop emotional awareness. In
order to grow spiritually, you need to become aware of everything that you are
feeling. Everything. Your emotions are the force field of your soul. You will never find
your soul in your head. You will find it in your heart. That is where divine intelligence
resides. As you become aware of all that you are feeling, each of those feelings will
lead you to a part of your personality. In order to create consciously, you must be
aware of all of the parts of your personality. There is no way to do that except by
becoming aware of your emotions.
When you become conscious of all of the parts of your personality, they still have
their own goals, agendas and values, but they dont surprise you anymore. Your
obsessions, fixations, compulsions, and addictions are known to you. Then you are
in a position to decide which parts of yourself you want to cultivate and which you
want to change. Then you are in a position to choose to create responsibly, to
apply your free will consciously to your choices. You will not be able to do this as
long as you have parts of yourself that are operating outside your field of
awareness.
With each choice you immediately create numerous paths within a
choice, one of which is then optimal. In other words, the optimal path of
your soul is the choice of awareness, the vertical path.
G: Tell us about your early life. What led you into all of this?
GZ: The first part of my life I was angry, bitter, jealous, and resentful. I didnt feel
that the world was a good place. I was raised in a small town in Kansas. I went to
Harvard on a scholarship, where I earned a bachelors degree in international
relations. Then I enlisted in the Army. First I was a private in the infantry, then I went
to Infantry Officer Candidate School, then I became a paratrooper, and after that an

officer in the Green Berets in Vietnam. When I got out of the army I became an
adventurer, unhappily exploring the world.
Then, in the mid 1970s, I was invited by a physicist friend of mine to a weekly
meeting of physicists at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. I never was good at
mathematics, and I never liked science. So I was surprised when I discovered that
the physicists at the meeting were discussing the deepest philosophical questions I
could imagine, such as, Does consciousness create reality? I became so
fascinated that I went back the next week. I started to read so I could tell people
what I was excited about.
As I read, I got even more excited and I began to ask the physicists at the meeting
questions. Then I decided to write a book about what I was learning. I wanted to
leave a gift behind me for those who would later be excited by these same
concepts. That book was The Dancing WuLi Masters: An Overview of the New
Physics. I asked the physicists that I had met if they would help me. Every chapter
was read by several physicists and all of them gave me notes. I put their comments
into the book as footnotes. They are a wonderful part of the book.
The Dancing Wu Li Masters got a rave review in the New York Times the day
before it was published. It won the American Book Award for Science, was selected
by every major book club, and translated into twelve languages. It still sells briskly
around the world. Whats important in this is that my experience in writing The
Dancing Wu Li Masters was very different from my life until that time. I had been
very unhappy, angry, and judgmental. But when I was writing the book, I was living
a different experience one of fulfillment, purpose, and excitement. I was fully
involved in what I was doing. This was my first experience of authentic power. It also
was my first experience of non-physical guidance although I didnt have the
vocabulary to articulate that.
G: What was the exquisite perfection of your attending Harvard?
GZ: It allowed me to experience academic excellence and to appreciate intellectual
discipline and clarity of expression. I became able to conceptualize and articulate
much more clearly. Years later when, when I was writing The Dancing Wu Li
Masters, that enabled me to receive the gifts of the many physicists who assisted
me in developing a clear formulation of my ideas and the ideas of quantum physics.
G: In your book you talk about spiritual partnership which is something I
am excited about since I feel I am in spiritual partnership with my partner
Raphael. Early on we both said, I am not here to please or fulfill you. You
do that and as long as this works for our spiritual evolution I will be here.
GZ: Spiritual partnership is a partnership between equals for the purpose of spiritual
growth. I have a particular kind of spiritual partnership, for example, with Linda
Francis. In that partnership, my commitment is to my spiritual growth and her
commitment is to hers. We have chosen our relationship as a vehicle in which to
grow spiritually together. We recognize ourselves as souls who are together in order
to grow spiritually.
Spiritual partnership is a partnership between equals for the purpose of spiritual
growth.
- Gary Zukav
Spiritual partners have a deep desire to grow spiritually. They stay together as long
as they grow together. That doesnt mean they dont have difficult times. On the

contrary. Their intention to grow together will bring all of their obstacles to intimacy
into consciousness. Spiritual partners will grow through these times as long as they
intend to continue to grow no matter how stuck they might feel at a particular
moment.
A marriage may be a spiritual partnership, but, the bond of marriage serves survival
needs. Also, marriages are defined by the culture in which the marriage occurs, and
they are sanctified by an external authority. Spiritual partnerships are defined by
the spiritual partners, and they sanctify their bond with the authority of their own
beings. Spiritual partners are together in order to create authentic power to align
the personality with the soul.
G: It seems to me that what is vital and especially exciting is for people of
that commitment and lifestyle to gather in groups and in community. You
alluded to this in The Seat of the Soul.
GZ: Yes. Cocreation in spiritual partnership is central to our evolution. The things
that I am sharing with you I do not share as a dogma, or as a belief system that I
want you to accept. They are ways of looking at the world that have been helpful to
me. I hope they will be helpful to you. So if I say something that you resonate with, I
suggest that you experiment with it. See how it works in your life. If it creates
positive consequences, take it and use it as your own. If it doesnt, let it go.
My journey from an angry man with no regard for Life to who I am now
has been long, often difficult, joyful, and extremely rewarding. It has
shown me that anyone can make the same kind of journey in his or her
own way.

It is possible to create a joyful life that is loving and harmonious, based on sharing
and reverence, the values of the soul. This does not happen spontaneously. You
must choose it. This is the lesson that we are learning in the Earth school: We are
each powerful creators, and we each create powerfully in every moment. Your
creative power is great whether you use it consciously or unconsciously. Therefore I
suggest that you create consciously. When you create what your soul wants to
create when you align your personality with your soul you create a heaven on
earth. That is authentic power.
