HISTORY OF MAZAK
Mazak Opto nics Corpo ration established a pr esence in the United S tates in 198 7 fo r the mar keting, sales,
service, and suppor t of Mazak la ser cutt ing syst ems in No rth America. Originally a joint ventu re, Yamazaki
Mazak Corporation obtained full cont rol of the op erations in 2 005. Mazak Optonics specializes solely in CO 2
laser cutting processes for a full range of metal working industries.
Our parent company, Yamazaki Mazak Corpor ation (Oguchi, Japan), is now the worlds largest manufacturer of
machine tools, including CNC turning centers, machining cent ers, and laser cutting systems. Our companys
commitment to technology, innovation, and quality has re sulted in the worldwide manufacture and distribution of
hundreds of types of high-productivity machines, cells and systems.
With the co mbined strengths of Mazaks eng ineering and manufacturing, a s we ll as our co mmitment to
continuous improvement, Mazak Optonics has become the leading supplier of CO2 laser cutting systems in North
America. For twenty years, we have been at the forefront of laser technology. During this period our approach
has always been one of consultation and e ducation for our customers to help them apply laser processing to
their advantage and achieve world-class competitiveness.
The countrys largest staff of laser application engineers and support personnel dedicated solely to laser cutting
are locate d in our Elg in, IL Nation al Headqua rters and T echnology Cen ter, as well as in strate gic lo cations
throughout t he US and Canada. T hese r esources, combin ed with o ur powerful 2D and 3D la ser systems,
provides the availability of both time studies and application reviews for specific customer parts, w hich can be
proven and demonstrated in our 50,0 00 sq. ft. Te chnology Center. In addition, th e benefits of various stages of
automation can be studied and justified in this time of scarce and costly manpower.
Our training headquarters is also located in the Elgin facility, with classroom sessions supplemented by handson experience on the technology center floor. Management, operator, programming, and safety training classes
are develop ed and held at our stat e of the art facility on a n ongoin g b asis. In ad dition, ut ilizing the late st
communications technologies, classes are available regionally and locally.
Our Parts Department, with its large stock of inventory, is also housed in our headquarters in Elgin, IL, providing
a central shipping location to best serve our customers.
On-site re search an d de velopment u sing o ur ow n autom ated factor ies ha s emphasize d more than any other
single p oint in produ ction, the necessity for a re liable, stable, and consiste nt pro cess t o maximize production
through put. Through nearly 100 yea rs of man ufacturing experience, Mazak has understood that this level of
consistency out-produces any short-term speed advantages alone through the reduction of unnecessary human
intervention. It is with this experience and history, Mazak Optonics Corporation is pleased to present:

SYSTEM SUMMARY
The Space Gear-U44 series laser cutting machine tool is a multi-functional three-dimensional laser-processing tool that is
equally capa ble of pro cessing 2D as we ll as 3D work. The m achine d esign utili zes a unique fl ying optics m echanism,
composed of a traveling X-axis and Y-axis cutting head. This head not only decreases inertia-related deformation of the part,
but also saves valuable floor space. This, combined with an efficiently designed Z, A, and B axis movement makes the floor
space requirement for this machine far less than other 3 dimensional machines of this type.
SPECIAL FEATURES
The compact machine design requires 130 square feet of floor space for limited space requirements.
Optional fully integrated thru-hole manual rotary table assures the most efficient processing of both round and square tube.
This featu re, wh en combined wit h ou r m ulti-axis he ad, allo ws th e prope r d raft an gle to be created in th e tu be an d pi pe,
creating the best fit and weld joints in complicated assemblies.
Cutting ranges of 49.21 x 49.21 (2D), 35.43 x 3 5.43 x 11.0 2 (3D formed parts), and from .0 79 to 11.11 (3D tubing on
rotary table.)
The S pace Gear-U44 i ncorporates a ri gid drive with a nti-friction gu ide-ways, AC Digital servomotors, an d fi ne pit ch ba ll
screws to allow positioning accuracy of +/- .0004 per 20-inch stroke, and repeatability of +/- .0002.
