Garage Expansion Begins
Trucks began to move Thursday, January 3rd as the airport
garage expansion project got
underway.
The Garage Expansion, with a
footprint that covers the current short-term surface lot, will
add 770 highly desirable protected and close-in parking
stalls at the Boise Airport. The
$13 million project will be
funded with $11 million in airport revenue bonds and the
remainder with airport cash
reserves.
"This expansion, completed
affordably, is an investment in
our future which will provide
the level of service that our
community expects and deserves from their capitol airport both in the near term and
into the foreseeable future,"
said Boise Airport Director
Rebecca Hupp.

To compensate for the loss of
short-term surface parking due
to the expansion project, the
first floor of the current Garage
has been designated as shortterm throughout the year-long
construction period. Upon
completion, short-term will
permanently move to the first
floor of the new Garage expansion.
The Cell Waiting Area has also
been relocated during the
construction. Meeters and
greeters can wait in the Econo-

BOI Delta Team Cleans Up (A Highway)

The Delta Air Lines team at BOI has adopted a section of Highway 69/Meridian Road
just north of Kuna. The inaugural clean up
event was held November 10, 2012 and in
their short day, twelve (12) garbage bags
were filled with roadside litter. Our local
Delta Team has committed to three cleaning events per year.

Airport Operations 24/7 - by Sarah Demory

Did you know that the Airport Operations team functions
24/7? The Boise Airport has a team of talented Airport
Operations Specialists who work three shifts to cover 24
hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year monitoring
airport security, airport operations, airfield conditions
as part of staffing the airport operations center. The
team also prides themselves on providing extraordinary customer service for our customers. The teams
work three shifts that cover the day; morning, afternoon
and overnight.
The Airport Operations Center is always bustling with
activity. With the recent snow that we received, the
Airport Operations Center monitored and coordinated
airport conditions and took in an average of 300 calls
each day! Airport Operations is also responsible for
terminal Lost & Found, patrolling the curbside, and coordinating with Boise PD and TSA.

Information Technology has officially
kicked off the Airport Wi-Fi remodel project and are currently working on a software assisted model of the proposed system. This will enable us to simulate the
Internet coverage we get throughout the
airport and help us check for service gaps.
We will likely be working on this project
for the next 6 months or so, and provide an
extended area of coverage terminal-wide.
Recently implemented and in the test
phase through March is the Eagle Systems
runway inspection software. This program
will easily allow staff in the field to report
issues, identified by their GPS coordinates,
that are then uploaded via computer to the
Ops Center for repair/resolution.

Air Ops Area Lighting has also been

updated. Drive
gate improvements
allow for brighter
lights to be displayed at all exterior gates when the
airport has to go
into low visibility conditions. The new
lights offer low power consumption and
extra bright LEDs to help alert drivers to
the presence of a SMGSCS condition in low
visibility. The lights are also twice the size
of their old counterparts. This will improve
the safety and awareness of all who enter
and exit the airport from exterior drive

gates. IT is also installing a non-water

based fire suppression system in our primary server room. In the event of a fire,
water would be disastrous to the electronics. The Sapphire system releases a
chemical mixture specially developed to
be used on electronics in the event of a
fire. Should we ever have a major emergency, this provides a state-of-the-art fire
suppression system.

Directors Corner

January always seems like a great opportunity to reflect on the past twelve months, as well as a time to look to the
future, set goals and make predictions for the New Year. The only thing constant in the aviation industry is change
and 2012 was no exception to that rule for the Boise Airport. In 2012, the Airport experienced a number of changes - air service additions, and unfortunately, some air service reductions. There were also changes to the airfield
with the reconstruction of the runway and redesign of connecting taxiways. There is the welcome addition of the
canopies for the car rental parking lot and new carpeting in the ticket lobby. BOI also welcomed four new concessions in 2012 with the introduction of the Massage Bar, Forever Heather, Best Buy Vending and Smart Food Vending. There were changes in our tenants employees and Airport staff, retirements, promotions and lots of new
faces too.
Director Rebecca Hupp

As 2013 begins, there are lots of questions about the future of the aviation industry. There is the question
about whether or not American Airlines will emerge from bankruptcy as an independent carrier or if there will be another airline merger. There is debate about the economic recovery, the national debt and sequestration and what those things mean to aviation. While
there will definitely be change it will most likely be slow and steady as opposed to fast and furious. Despite some uncertainty, there are
lots of things for us to look forward to in 2013. The coming year will bring the completion of the new parking garage, some new artwork
for the Airport and, hopefully, the transition to the new Air Traffic Control Tower, to name just a few things.
And, as we look forward to the future, we will also celebrate our past, recognizing that 2013 will be the sesquicentennial (a big word for
the 150th anniversary) for the City of Boise as well as the 30 year history for Horizon Air and the 10 year anniversary of the opening of
BOIs new terminal building.
The reality is you cannot escape change. You can only impact how you prepare for change and how you react to it when it happens.
When we do these two things well, we have the ability to shape the future

Well earned and a warm Congratulations!

Subject Great Service

Just wanted to let someone know that I received great service from the shuttle transportation driver on 12/17/12. I returned to Boise late in the evening and was treated very kindly and attentively while being driven back
to my vehicle in the economy lot. It was nice to be treated so well. Unfortunately I never caught the gentleman's name but I imagine you have
ways to track him down. Thank you again for employing such a great
person at the airport. He is definitely an asset to the community.
