Kidnapping

Kidnapping is becoming a global phenomenon. Most countries of Asia,

Europe, America and Africa have witnessed unprecedented wave and spate of
violence and crime. Indeed Nigeria has witnessed various forms of militancy,
violence and crime including kidnapping. Kidnapping, as a concept, poses a
number of definitional problems in relations to a countrys legal and moral
viewpoints as well as the availability of other variances such as hijacking and
hostage taking. From different definitions, kidnapping could be tagged as a very
serious contemporary crime which is relatively unheard of in contemporary
Nigeria compared to robbery, burglary and other forms of social crimes. Yang et
al (2007) attributes such relative obscurity to three reasons namely, rarity of the
event itself, access to known kidnappers and data problem. As a rare even,
researchers tend to see kidnapping as an insignificant criminal act which
accounts for low research interest directed to it.
Kidnapping is any illegal capture or detention by any strangers for criminal
and mischievous purpose. In criminal laws, kidnapping means taking away or
asportation of a person against the persons will. These problems are usually
caused by parental child abduction, children abduction for slavery and abduction
results from parents to bring up as their own. Now, here are some preventions for
these particular circumstance from occur.
First of all, parents ought to give guidelines to their children. They should
play their very important role to build up a family safety plan. Parents need to
educate their kids to think logically, in order to do so, kids must be taught that
questioning, reasoning, and criticizing are good requirement to stay safe. They
have to stay aware of the surrounding issues and keep alert. For example, teach
the kids about stranger and common lures used by kidnapper such as giving
sweets to seduce them and many more. Other than that, parents should also
listen to their kids problem. Ask if they have question, and listen carefully to their
answer. Parents have to put themselves into their childrens shoes. Moreover, it
is essential to know where the kids are going, who is with them and when they
are suppose to return home. Parents can check on the location of their children if
they keep a list of acquaintances phone numbers.

child kidnapping. The chip can be surgically planted under a childs skin, putting it
into the fabric of clothes or inserted under the skin by injection. With this chip,
parents can easily detect their childrens situation, once they are out of the
certain area the special alarms will send out a SOS signal.

This is because it has an SOS button, which sends an SMS and position
coordinates to a predefined mobile number if the child is in trouble. A parent can
call the child back to find out what the problem is.
Parents also have a role to play by educating their wards on the danger of
associating with strangers. On the larger scale, government at all levels should
also fulfill the promises made and also address the high rate of unemployment in
the country which may be one of the causes of new criminal tendencies in our
society.
To this end, cases of kidnapping are becoming the most common across
the world. This is because of the changes in the lifestyle thus resulting to
occurrences of these crimes. The economic strains on families incite depressions
and fear caused by disagreements between the involved parties. These results
unplanned cases of divorce and separation thus the party which is on the loss
decides to hurt the other in revenge. The children are kidnapped from their
mothers or the one on revenge homicides the other.
