CALL FOR ADVOCATES

Delhi High Court and Supreme Court of India

More than 53% children in India have faced sexual abuse at some point in their lives
more than 48,000 child rape cases were recorded from 2001 to 2011 and that India saw an
increase of 336% of child rape cases from 2001 (2,113 cases) to 2011 (7,112 cases).

Equally shocking is the fact that a significant percentage of these cases are not reported
and pursued. In particular, children from underprivileged backgrounds are excluded from
the protection of law.
Recognising the importance of prompt redressal and effective access to justice in cases of
child sexual abuse, iProbono India (iProbono) is collaborating with the Counsel to
Secure Justice (CSJ) to provide pro bono legal advice and representation to survivors
of child sexual abuse before the Honble Supreme Court of India and the Honble Delhi
High Court.
What we do:
iProbono is a non-profit network connecting civil society organizations with lawyers who
are willing to work on a pro bono basis. iProbono has actively been working in the field
of child rights, welfare and child sexual abuse and very recently assisted in securing a
landmark judgment from the Honble Delhi High Court in a case of sexual abuse of a 3.5
year old child, changing the law on the admissibility of testimonies of child victims and
witnesses.
CSJ is an organisation working at the grass roots level to provide survivors of sexual
violence free legal support, and focuses on the trial stage. CSJ is already handling various
cases of child sexual abuse before lower courts in Delhi.
Who were looking for:
We are looking to constitute a panel of motivated lawyers who are willing to do pro bono
legal work and help secure justice for survivors of child sexual abuse.
Preference will be given to lawyers who have experience in handling criminal matters or
public law matters or sexual abuse matters.

Honble Supreme Court of India: The panel shall consist of approximately 8

(eight) advocates, including Advocates on Record, with experience of over 5 (five)
years in handling matters before the Supreme Court.

Honble High Court of Delhi: The panel shall consist of approximately 10 (ten)
advocates with experience of over 5 (five) years in drafting, filing and appearing
before the High Court.

In certain matters, lawyers may also be asked to advice on an ongoing litigation before the
Trial Court.
The capacity of the Panel may vary depending on the number and strength of the
applications that we receive.
Selection of Panel:
Candidates shall be shortlisted on the basis of materials submitted within a period of 10
days from the application deadline and interviewed by a panel of Senior Advocates, prior
to final selection.
The term of the panel of advocates shall be of 2 (two) years or till further notice.
Handling of Cases:
Upon selection of advocates and constitution of the Panel, iProbono shall assign matters
to the advocates on the Panel in turn. The advocate may then indicate his/her availability
to take up the case, after which iProbono and/or CSJ shall meet and brief the advocate on
the details of the matter.
The advocate will be expected to report the outcome of each hearing to iProbono and CSJ.
All reasonable expenses related to the filing before the appellate courts (viz.
photocopying, court fee, process fee) shall be reimbursed to the advocate, upon raising a
memo of expenses in the prescribed format.
