Romans STUDY Part 2

2 Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you
2

condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God
3

rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O manyou who judge those who practice
4

such things and yet do them yourselfthat you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you presume on the
riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to
5

repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day
of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.
6

He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and
8

honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking[a] and do not obey the truth,
9

but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury. There will be tribulation and distress for every human
being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek,
good, the Jew first and also the Greek.

but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does

For God shows no partiality.

Ice Breaker Question (5-10 min.)

-Your friend is talking to you and has really bad breath. Do you tell them or just back up and hold
your own breath?
-You can take a 15 min. visit to the world of any movie. What movie world are you visiting?
-You passed gas (farted!) in public with a group of your friends. Everyone thinks it was someone
else. Do you let that person take the blameor do you come clean?

Discovering the Word

What is something that stuck out from tonights bible passage and/or talk?

Read Verses 1-2 Do you think Paul means we shouldnt judge people at all that all laws and courts are
unnecessary? Or does he mean something else? (Leader Clue: God does not condemn rightly judging others.
But God is against people practicing the same sins that they are condemning in others.)

Verse 4 What does it mean to presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not
knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? (Leader Clue: Paul likely directed this
statement to the Jews at Rome. They had often experienced Gods kindness, forbearance, and patience. They
thought those blessing showed that they were right with God and had no need to trust in Christ. But Paul says
the opposite is true: Gods kindness should have led them to repent of their sins.)

Read Verses 6-11 In chapter ONE Paul stated that the righteous shall live by faithnot by works. So what do
these verses mean? (Leader Clue: these verses refer to those who are justified by faith and prove it through a life
of obedient works before God. And that the unsaved prove it by their lifestyle as well).
o

The phrase God shows no partiality? What does Paul mean?

We constantly cast judgment on the world around us. Are there sin areas of your life that you excuse
away, but condemn others for the same thing?

If you are a Christian, what are some ways youve seen God change your life that prove you are his?

Responding in Prayer: As a group take a minute to ask for prayer requests. Spend time closing
