TUESDAYFOCUS ON CHRISTS MIRACLES

Chronological Bible Reading: Leviticus 10-12; Matthew 25:1-23
Tuesday, February 10

1 Sam. 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings
and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and
to hearken than the fat of rams.

John 2:10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine;
and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until
now.

God My Father:
You commanded Saul to obey, and instead he performed a religious ritual. I
know many people just like that! What drives them is the same thing that drove
Saul: pride (v 17) and fear (v 24). The only remedy for selfishness is
submission, and the only cure for fear is faith that obeys.
I am trying to witness to an idolatrous generation. Look at our society and
culture. They are spiritually fond of the finery of ceremony, but totally neglect
your command to repent. I know many like __________ and __________, who
worship in a sacramental liturgy. Use me to help them discover how simple
obedience to the gospel is better than any return to ritual or tradition.
All the pretensions about being a good Christian and loving the good Lord,
along with all the missional things they do for their church or their fellow men,
are no repayment for their disobedience to the gospel. They cannot make-up for
not trusting in the sacrifice of Christ, made once for all on Calvary.
Gregorian chants, incense, candles, vestments and banners make a grand
display, but not a spiritual one. Obedience is the spiritual sacrifice. Praise for what
Christ accomplished on the cross is the sacrifice of my lips. Laying my life on the
altar in consecration to your Eternal Purpose is the reasonable worship
demanded of those who have been saved by Christs blood.
All their formalities accomplish nothing toward their salvation. Help them
see that, and hearken to the gospel today! Make them as teachable as a child, and
obedient in trusting you totally for salvation. Do it for Jesus sake. Amen.

Mighty God and Merciful Lord:

I look at what your miracles teach me. When people come to Christ they
are not deceived; your blessings are not dreams. If my friends will just come and
trust you, the work done for them will be as real as what you did in Cana. Even
the ungodly are forced to admit when you make a change in someones life.
Lord, I trust in this: you actually turned the water into a wine of special
quality, so you can now transform my character and make it better than
willpower, counseling or education could produce. Lift my daily life into
something so glorious, through Christ, it takes a back seat to nobody elses
experiences, because in all this Jesus will be revealed and your name glorified!
John 2:11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested
forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
I want to do the same Lord, and share in the faith that marvels at you. The
guests at the feast all drank the wine, but your disciples got something far better,
because they had an increase in faith. Make that also true of me! Others can eat
and drink of common mercies; but let me see Jesus.
You are ever-ready for emergency. Something may come up today I cannot
contemplate in this prayer. It is no matter if I did not think of it, because you are
always ready for the unexpected. Now make me ready for the unlikely to occur so
I will not be surprised at you. Give me the eye of faith to see you, and wait in the
full knowledge that whatever time you act will be right, and whatever thing you
do will always work. Increase my faith, Lord Jesus! Amen.

Great Lord and Heavenly God:

Clouds sometimes accumulate, but I do not fear being drowned. I see the
rainbow after the rainstorm and it reminds me not to be afraid. I have no doubt
the covenant you made with Noah still stands good for me.
So why am I tempted to believe my clouds of struggle will end in
destruction? Why believe the clouds that darken my path are any more
threatening? This is my prayer: help me dismiss all God-dishonoring fears.
Give me faith to see the bow of the covenant through the winds of change
and the clouds of opposition. Yes, you have a bow. And yes, it can shoot arrows
of destruction. But look! It is turned over. It is a bow without an arrow or a
string. It is a bow for show, no longer used to punish me for my sins. It is a bow
of many colors, which expresses joy and delight. It is not a bow blood-red with
slaughter. It is not a bow stealth-black with sudden destruction. It is not a bow
spitting flames of anger.
I encourage myself in your word today. Never do you so darken my sky as
to leave your promise without a witness somewhere in my life. Something always
comes up to prove your love. Something will happen todayas dark as it may
getwhich will yet prove your presence. So
Isa. 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in thee.
I will trust you until the waters recede, and recognize it as an expression of
revival. Since you cannot change and you cannot lie, then you will not fail to keep
your covenant of salvation with me. Thank you Lord Jesus! Amen.

Exodus 3:12 Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I
have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon
this mountain.

Psa. 78:34 When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and inquired
early after God.

Psa. 116:8 For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my
feet from falling.

Loving Lord and Living Master:

Let prayer be raised by our entire church. Let us do it sooner rather than
later. Let us not wait to seek you until you have slain us! Where two or three of us
come together and pray, there will always come an answer of peace. If the prayer
of even one of us prevails with you, then surely the prayer of our whole church
will result in the multiplication of our flock in the fulfillment of your purpose.
When Israel fell to Ai, it wasnt just because Achan carried the accursed
thing into their camp. It was because they said, Let not all the people labour thither. So
a part of the people were allowed to lie at ease. Our church will always have
hard times as long as a few people are left to do what should be done by all
the redeemed. Let us, as the whole house of Israel, besiege our Ai by prayer so
we can take it! Help each of us Lord, take a personal interest in prayer and
revival. When we finally recognize the conversion of souls is our own personal
business, then will we seek the lost. When the case of any sinner we know
becomes our case before the throne, and our heart cries, Give me children, or else I
die (Gen. 30:1), then we are sure to succeed.
If the sinner we know wont repent, then let us repent over him! If they will
not believe, then let us believe God for them, and by faith plead your promises
concerning them. If we cannot get them to pray, then we will pray on their
behalf. In answer to our repentance make them repent; in answer to our faith
lead them to believe; in reply to our prayer move them to pray.
You will do it, but we will have to seek it as your personal favor. Make our
souls more determined and continual in heart-felt prayer! Amen.

Father God:
There are hundreds in the church who can say, thou hast delivered my soul from
death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling. I say it today to the glory of your
grace, and the comfort of anyone else passing through similar problems. I have
tested the power of your truth in my own experience. You have given me Christ,
and in him give me all things, so
Psa. 116:16 O LORD, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of
thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds.
Let me rededicate myself to you today. I bring myself as your offering. I
confess I belong to you heart and soul, because you have redeemed me and
delivered me.
Matt. 11:29-30 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly
in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Being set free from the chains of sin, death and hell, I am now glad to wear
the easy, light yoke of my Deliverer. Easy because you guide the way and have
gone before me. Light because you share the load and pull the burden.
Psa. 116:19 In the courts of the LORDS house, in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem.
Praise ye the LORD.
Help me not confine my praise to my prayer closet today! I want to lift it up
in the thick of the throng. With heart and voice help me invite others to join in
my glad adoration.
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation! O my soul, praise Him, for He is
thy health and salvation! Amen.

TEACH me Thy way, O Lord, teach me Thy way!

Thy guiding grace afford, teach me Thy way!
Help me to walk aright, more by faith, less by sight;
Lead me with heavnly light, teach me Thy way!
When I am sad at heart, teach me Thy way!
When earthly joys depart, teach me Thy way!
In hours of loneliness, in times of dire distress,
In failure or success, teach me Thy way!
When doubts and fears arise, teach me Thy way!
When storms oer spread the skies, teach me Thy way!
Shine through the cloud and rain, through sorrow, toil and pain;
Make Thou my pathway plain, teach me Thy way!
Long as my life shall last, teach me Thy way!
Whereer my lot be cast, teach me Thy way!
Until the race is run, until the journeys done,
Until the crown is won, teach me Thy way!
Benjamin Ramsey, 1919

Gen. 9:14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the
bow shall be seen in the cloud:

QUALITY CHRISTIANITY INVOLVES THREE THINGS

Keeping Christ at the center (your core relationship of worship to God)

Keeping the body of Christ a priority (your congregational relationship of
walking with us)
Basing beliefs and actions on the mind of Christ (your church relationship in
the Word)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Baptists tend to ridicule liturgical churches that use "prepared prayers" because
they lack spontaneity. But for many Baptists, their prayers are so predictable they are
no more spontaneous than written-out prayers. The result is we end up praying the
same things over and over.
This daily Prayer Diary will prompt you on a wide range of prayer requests you
might not normally think of, while forcing you to articulate a deeper devotion to
God. We have included a daily Bible reading schedule. This plan will take you
through the Bible chronologically in a year.
Do not read ahead and do not try to catch up. Use each day as it comes. Then
you can know that on any given day, dozens of other people are lifting their hearts in
the same mind to God. Pray what is written, but use what is prayed as a springboard
for your own relationship with God. You learn to pray by praying.

MINISTRY, SERVICE & FELLOWSHIP CALENDAR

DEACON CARD
February 1-15 is Deacon Nomination Month. Deacons are not elected to serve,
but are selected because they are serving (Acts 6:3; 1 Tim 3). If you know
someone you would like to nominate, take a card from the usher as you exit, fill
it out, and turn it in to the lobby desk, the office, or the offering box. From
those nominations we will select men who will agree to hold that office and
function with the pastors, and publish that list Feb 22nd. After a time of
feedback, those men will be installed as our Deacons on Sunday, March 8.

Secret prayer is the secret of prayer, the soul of prayer, the seal of prayer, the
strength of prayer. If you do not pray alone you do not pray at all. Our Lord Jesus
Christ would go nowhere till He had prayed. He would attempt nothing till He had
prayed.
Oh, says one, I live in the spirit of prayer, and therefore I do not need times
and seasons for prayer. And do you think that Christ did not live in the spirit of
prayer? Yet He had to have his special time and place to pray. Do not fall under the
injurious notion that because your spirit cries to God in prayer all day long, therefore
there must not be some season for more immediately coming into Gods presence. If
you imagine this, I am afraid that it will prove a snare to your feet. The Lord Jesus
Christ, who knew better than you do that the main thing is the spirit of prayer rather
than the act of prayer, yet Himself retired into desert places to maintain the act and
exercise of prayer. Be spiritual. Be baptized into the spirit of prayer. But do not be
deceived by the enemy, who can steal a spirit away while we dream that we only
spiritualize it. We had better preserve the very bones of prayerthe posture, the
time, placerather than let it all ooze away into an impalpable mental condition.
God keep us prayerful. He will do so if He makes us like His dear Son.
Charles H. Spurgeon, 1834-92
