GUMPTION TO HOLD ON
I have a friend named Monty Roberts who owns a horse ranch. He has let me use his house to put on fundraising events for youth at risk programs. The last time I was there he introduced me by saying, "I want to tell you
why I let Jack use my house. It all goes back to a story about a young man who was the son of an itinerant horse
trainer who would go from stable to stable, race track to race track, farm to farm and ranch to ranch, training
horses. As a result, the boy's high school career was continually interrupted. When he was a senior, he was asked to
write a paper about what he wanted to do when he grew up. "That night he wrote a seven-page paper describing his
goal of someday, owning a horse ranch. He wrote about his dream in great detail and he even drew a diagram of a
200 acre ranch, showing the location of all the buildings, the stables and the track. Then he drew a detailed floor
plan for a 4,000 square-foot house that would sit on a 200 acre dream ranch. "He put a great deal of his heart into
the project and the next day he handed it in to his teacher. Two days later he received his paper back. On the
front page was a large red F with a note that read, 'See me after class.' "The boy with the dream went to see the
teacher after class and asked, 'Why did I receive an F?' "The teacher said, 'This is an unrealistic dream for a
young boy like you. You have no money. You come from an itinerant family. You have no resources. Owning a horse
ranch requires a lot of money. You have to buy the land. You have to pay for the original breeding stock and later
you'll have to pay large stud fees. There's no way you could ever do it.' Then the teacher added, 'If you will rewrite
this paper with a more realistic goal, I will reconsider your grade.' "The boy went home and thought about it long
and hard. He asked his father what he should do. His father said, 'Look, son, you have to make up your own mind on
this. However, I think it is a very important decision for you.' "Finally, after sitting with it for a week, the boy
turned in the same paper, making no changes at all. He stated, 'You can keep the F and I'll keep my dream.'" Monty
then turned to the assembled group and said, "I tell you this story because you are sitting in my 4,000 square-foot
house in the middle of my 200 acre horse ranch. I still have that school paper framed over the fireplace." He
added, "The best part of the story is that two summers ago that same schoolteacher brought 30 kids to camp out
on my ranch for a week." When the teacher was leaving, he said, 'Look, Monty, I can tell you this now. When I was
your teacher, I was something of a dream stealer. During those years I stole a lot of kids' dream. Fortunately you
had enough gumption not to give up on yours.
Don't let anyone talk you out of your dream. Always follow the promptings of your heart, no matter what.
When you have a dream, speak to yourself, and make the dream a reality. No man can kill your dream until you
willingly give them control over what is in your heart. Always speak your dream out and never give it up. Nurture
your dream with faith and hope. Follow your dream unto its fruition. No matter the challenges on your way, no
matter the discouraging people you encounter as you pursue your dream, dont let anyone steal or kill your dream.
Always have enough gumption not to give up on your dream. Your dream might look impossible but as long as you
dream it, it will happen if you believe it, and believe also in it. See your dream as seeds you sow and wait for them to

grow and yield fruits of hundred and thousand folds. Never let the devil deceive you that your dream is unrealistic.
Dont let the birds eat it up. Speak to your dream every moment of your days and watch Heaven make manifest your
very dream. The story above is an example of a rugged dreamer who will never allow anything to eat up his dream
seeds. He stood by his dream, he watched it materialize, making him to become other peoples motivations and
dreams. He stood by his dream and spoke constantly to it too, and then God stepped in and made him his very dream
realized. Take that as your story in the making. Speak a few positive words to yourself. Believe in what you are
saying and then watch Gods rewards follow immediately. They will not be farfetched. Notice that Jesus spoke with
a great conviction of the person who says a thing, believes what he says, and without doubt at all in his heart. How
you perceive yourself is how you carry yourself around. How you carry yourself around is how you will be treated.
How you are treated is never the end, until you give up and believe in the negatives that are never your lots. If you
believe in the positive dispositions of Heaven for your dream, thats exactly what will happen to you. You will remain
what you speak yourself into. Now, lets see this scripture come alive in you as you speak to yourself these
breakthrough words from the Holy Ghost:
This is my season of greatness. I have grace, abundance of grace. I am born to achieve greatness because
Christ has redeemed me from the curse of the law. I shall always be the head and not the tail; always on top and not
below. A thousand shall fall by my left hand, and tens of thousands by my right hand, and no evil shall come near my
dwelling. The Bible tells me that I have the mind of Christ, 1 Corinthians 2:16. This information is from heaven to
me. I am too blessed to be oppressed; too blessed to be stressed; too blessed to be depressed. I am what God says
I am. I do not define my destiny; neither the world nor the devil can exact any evil upon me. I do not argue with the
Word of God, I only believe it, that is my singular duty with it. My heart is receptive. My mind is focused. I am
resolute that I am special to God. I believe the Bible, and so I can think pure thoughts. I understand Gods will
because His testimony is my meditation. I am just too important to God for Him to forget me. My miracles are on
the way because my mind tells me so. I can do all things because He is my strength. I will bring every thought to His
obedience because my mind has the power to do it. I can make it big in life AND I WILL. I am a conqueror, nay more
than a conqueror. I cannot be defeated since Jesus is my VICTORY. Greater is He that is me than he that is in the
world. No weapon formed against me shall prosper. My soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers:
the snare is broken, and I have escaped. My help is in the name of the LORD, who made the heavens and the earth.
My mind tells me that I am the apple of Gods eyes. I believe my mind; after all I have the mind of Christ. Halleluiah!
Halleluiah!! Praise God, Halleluiah!!! I am under Joyful Living experience. I believe what God has said about me. My
dream will surely be realized because God cannot lie. I believe in miracles and I believe His prosperity for me. I will
say of the Lord, He is My Fortress and My God. In Him ALONE I will trust. I am shielded by His favour. I will say
to any mountain on my way, MOVE! and it will move. I have the power to redefine my destiny. I am Gods! No one
can talk me out of my dream. Nothing can kill my dream either. I have the gumption to hold on unto the end. Amen?
