We are a group of driven professionals from various continents that have a deep

We do this through delivering high quality services for water, environment and

state of the art technical knowledge and expertise in the sectors of water and
environment as well as sound economics and business sense. Our excellent

clients to act and generate good outcomes for water, environment and people and
people.
We do this through our research and education programme. We develop and transfer
knowledge, practical tools and expertise to help ourselves and interested others move
toward the mission. The GSI website is the main portal for the research and education
programme and provides findings and information on how people might live the best
possible lives on Earth while caring for the natural environment and other people.
And lastly, we do this through developing new businesses and initiatives that support the
mission of Good Stuff International. These we call nature-people businesses.
Apart from our own dedicated staff, Good Stuff International has strong local and global
networks of professionals with technical backgrounds in economics, agriculture, WASH,

OVERVIEW OF SERVICES

Water:
Water is life. Water is at the heart of Good Stuff International. We come from a
background of integrated management of river catchments and freshwater ecosystem
conservation. And, in the last five years, we have become particularly strong in the field
of Water Footprint.
Water Footprint Assessment, catchment management and development strategy:
The engagement with the Water Footprint and the Water Footprint Network dates from
2007 and made GSI an expert in the field. We use the the Water Footprint to bring new
information to water management and policy, development and environment and
develop strategies, interventions and approaches for sustainable water use that fit the
local context. From this perspective and bringing in our policy expertise, we support
government, non-government and corporate customers in policy and water strategy
development. GSI is a partner of the Water Footprint Network (WFN) and in our work we
apply and provide technical support to the further development of the Water Footprint
Standard of the WFN. We offer:
Water Footprint Assessment for catchments, river basins, cities, nations and
regions, and products
Water Footprint Assessment for development
Water Footprint scenarios for irrigation planning and development
Water Footprint policy and strategy development
Water management and water development
GSI's origins are for a large part in global and local water management issues related to
freshwater ecosystem and biodiversity conservation. We bring to bear strong skills and
technical expertise for water resource planning and development and improving water
use efficiency at the catchment levels. The freshwater ecosystems and good land
management in catchments as well as strong institutional development, stakeholder
participation and ownership is close to our hearts. Because of our business focus we
endeavour to help our clients to develop instruments, mechanisms and institutional set
ups to secure finance for good water management. Our focus is to integrate the water,
economic, social and environmental sectors through these mechanisms. We offer:

Integrated Water resource management (IWRM) strategies and plans for

catchments and basins
Hydrological modeling and water use scenario planning
Water use and allocation efficiency strategies
Irrigation development planning and implementation
Climate proofing of Water resource management
Ecosystem based water resource management
Stakeholder engagement and participation

Environment
Human beings are integral part of Earth's environment. We live in ecosystems, depend
on them and change them. It is the changes to the ecosystems that affect the
environment which in turn is affecting human life. To understand how these changes can
be avoided and managed is GSI's interest. Our specialty is to develop strategies for
ecosystem use, management and policy as well as financial and business strategies that
provide socio-economic benefits while protecting ecosystems.
Landscape and ecosystem management
Managing landscapes and ecosystems is crucial for maintaining ecosystem function,
biodiversity and livelihoods for people. In our previous work, GSI experts developed and
implemented ecosystem management strategies and policy in Africa, Europe and
Asia.
We offer services in:

Landscape management and environmental management

Sustainable Landscape, Forest and Reserve management
Participatory ecosystem management
Sustainable resource use models for integrated land use systems and
management plans (agriculture, forestry, wetlands and fisheries)
Environmental policy and sustainability strategies
Environmental assessments (EIA, SEA)
Environment business planning

Business planning and finance for the environment

There is always too little money to manage and protect the environment. In line with its
mission, GSI aims to generate finance for the environment through various means so
that the protection of the environment becomes better financed. Finance for the
environment can come from many different sources: government funding and private
and public donations or loans, crowd funding, but also more innovative sources of
financing exist like environmental markets and sustainable business or what GSI calls
nature-people business. GSI brings a business approach to environmental financing to
increase the odds that the environmental and socio-economic benefits are sustained in
the future. Our track record shows that we are effective fund raisers and business
developers for the environment. We offer:
Landscape business planning for environmental and socio-economic
outcomes
Fundraising and investment strategies
Analysis and design of financing mechanisms and instruments
Environmental Trust fund development
Business models and institutional design for sustainable resource use and
management
Design of Payment for ecosystem and watershed services

People
GSI is working in the technical fields of environment and water because we are
convinced that we need the Earth ecosystems and resources to sustain our lives. The
current human activity and behaviour is changing our living environment. A change that
has direct and indirect negative effects on the lives of humans especially marginalised
people. For us water management and use and environmental management starts and
ends with people. Over the years we have gained invaluable understanding and
experience in what moves people, how to this movement can be organised and
institutionalised, how to share knowledge and expertise and make good ideas become
reality. GSI's visioning, leadership and (interim) management capacities, training and
engagement skills and and project management abilities make us a strong partner for
organisations that want to move towards a more sustainable world.
Project development and management
We are exceptionally strong in developing, implementing and evaluating projects in the
water, environment and nature conservation sectors. Our services range from fully
outsourced project management support to providing support for specific parts of the
project cycle. Specific services we offer:
Project formulation based on research and analysis, literature review,
stakeholder interviews and engagement, field studies, mind mapping, project
concepts and rough financial planning, feasibility analysis
Project design using a diversity of approaches Logical Framework Analysis
(LFA), Scenario analysis and Project cycle management, budgeting
Outsourced project implementation and management: planning, budgeting and
financial administration, human resources management, partner and stakeholder
engagement, result focused reporting, adaptive management, communications
Project mid term reviews and evaluations
Leadership and interim management
GSI has provided strong leadership in international organisations, government, not-forprofits and business. Various water and environmentally focused organisations have
hired us as interim managers in projects, programmes and Executive Director functions.
Training, engagement and interim management
GSI explores and promotes ways to live life in the best possible way. We believe that
training, engagement, participation of a wide variety of stakeholders in environmental
and sustainability issues is a prerequisite to better management of natural resources.
Through our experiences in international NGOs, Universities, business and government
organisations we have gained the skills to engage and communicate with a wide variety
of stakeholders on issues associated with water, land and the environment. Combined
with our strong technical backgrounds in water, environment, nature conservation and
land management we can offer a wide variety of trainings as well. We offer:
Engagement of stakeholders on environmental issues
Development and management of multistakeholder processes
Tailor made trainings and workshops for all expertise fields above
On the job coaching for professionals and managers

Vision and idea realisation

We have the ability to co-create strong vision and are excellent at generating and
realising ideas in the fields of water, environment and people. Our track record shows
that we have achieved tangible results with establishing the Syracuse Wildlife House
and Research Center and also with the Water Footprint Network. We are driven to work
with others to generate ideas and let them become a reality. Again, our approach is
business like, we move from idea feasibility analysis and testing to business planning
and financial planning, market research and analysis. If needed we also have the ability
to generate funds and investment through various means.
