Course Synopsis This course aims at developing necessary and critical skills for students to
effectively use the Internet. The class begins with the overview of Internet

and its history, then focuses on the specific Internet application as well as
the World Wide Web (WWW) such as electronic mail (e-mail), File
Transfer Protocol (FTP), NetMeeting, Newsgroups, ListServ, search
engines, Networking etc. The course will cover the recent technology of
Internet mainly in designing the homepage/web page. For this purpose,
students will be exposed with Hyper Text Mark-up Language (HTML) and
Cascading Style Sheet (CSS). Student will further expose to the advanced
web technology such as DHTML, XML and XHTML.

Course The objectives of this course are to:


Objectives 1. provide a brief overview of the history of the internet.
2. expose student to the necessary skills to use the internet
3. expose students to the necessary skills to develop and create
website.
Learning Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
Outcomes 1. describe internet and its history.
2. describe the importance of http protocols in web
applications.
3. demonstrate understanding on html and basic xml syntax.
4. apply and integrate html syntax to create web documents.
5. contrast and explain the issues involved in designing web
applications / web interfaces.
6. identify the various searching, emailing, surfing techniques
in using internet.
7. create a basic website based on good screen design
principles.
