Fail=69orbelow.YoumustearnatleastaCgradetocontinueontoyourENG220course,a
requirementintheLiberalArtsdegreeatCMI.

TestsandQuizzes35%offinalgrade(MidtermExamandFinalExamorProject/Papereachare
eachworth50%ofthisportionofthefinalgrade,soeachworth17.5%)
WritingAssignments/Homework(exceptforfinalproject/paper)=45%offinalgrade
AttendanceandParticipationinLabactivities=10%offinalgrade
Inclassparticipation(groupwork,classdiscussions,etc.)=10%offinalgrade
Quizzeswillbeunannouncedandnotgivenonaregularbasis,butwillusuallycomeintheformofa
popquiztoassesshowstudentsarekeepingupwithcourseinformationandspecifictopics.

AttendanceandPunctuality:

Attendanceisrequiredforeachandeveryclasssessionduringthissemester.Studentsmustarrivein
classwithin10minutesoftheclassstarttime.Ifstudentsarriveafterthat10minutestimelimit,they
willbemarkedasabsent(unexcused)fortheday.Studentswhoaccumulateunexcusedabsences
totaling10%ormore(3daysormore)ofthesemestersclassesbeforethemidtermwithdrawaldate
willbeadministrativelydroppedfromtheclass,andCMIpolicywillnotallowthemtoreenterthe
class.TheywillreceiveaWgrade.
Afterthemidtermwithdrawaldate,studentswitha10%(3days)ormoreabsenteeismrateof
unexcusedabsencessincethebeginningofthecoursewillreceiveanFastheirfinalgradeforthe
course.

Excused/UnexcusedAbsences:

Unexcusedabsencesconsistofmissingclasseswithoutinforming/consultingandreceivinggrantor
permissionfromtheinstructor,orincomingintoclassmorethan10minutesintotheclassperiod.

Excusedabsences:areonlytakenintoconsiderationandgrantedbytheinstructorifandwhenthe
studentdiscussestheissue/absencewiththeinstructor.Funerals,businesstrips,familytrips,mustbe
discussedwiththeinstructoratleast5dayspriortothestudentsleavingclass,andmakeupwork
mustbearrangedatthattime,tobeturnedintotheinstructordirectlyuponreturnfromthetrip.

Assignments:

Overdue,Late,and/orMissingAssignments:
Withoutinstructorpermission,studentsarenotallowedtoturninanyoverdue,late,ormissing
assignmentsforgrading.Donotturninoverdueworkalongwithcurrentassignments,hopingthat
theinstructorwillacceptandgradeit.Itwillbediscarded.

Lowscoredandgraderecoveryassignments:
Studentswhoseontimeassignmentshavereceivedaverylowscoremustdiscussthepossiblemeans
torevisitthegradedassignmentforgraderecovery.

ExpectedClassroomBehavior:

Turnoffallcellphonesandelectronicdeviceswhenenteringclass;thesemustremainshutoffforthe
durationoftheclass,unlesstheinstructorrequeststhatthewholeclassuseoneofthecomputersin
theroomforinstructional/learningpurposes.

Nobetelnutortobaccoproductchewingwillbepermittedduringclasstime.

Nofoodordrinkswillbeallowedinthecomputerclassrooms.Innoncomputerclassrooms,students
maybringinsomethingtodrink,butnofoodunlessbypermissionoftheinstructorfor
instructional/learningpurposes.

Academicdishonestyand/orplagiarismarenottoleratedatCMIorinyourclasses.Theseactsdefeat
thepurposeofeducationandcarryseverepenalties.Youmustdoyourownwork.Whenyouuse
informationfromaprintedsource,includingyourtextbookandtheassignedreadings,alwaysidentify
thesourceandthepage/paragraphwhereyouaretakingtheinformationfrom.Youmustuse
quotationmarkswhenyouusetheexactwordsfromaprintedorothermediasource.Penaltiesfor
