CERTIFICATION

INTRODUCTION
Product certification or product qualification is the process of certifying
that a certain product has passed performance tests and quality assurance
tests, and meets qualification criteria stipulated in contracts, regulations, or
specifications (typically called "certification schemes" in the product
certification industry).

80 PLUS

80 Plus (trademarked 80 PLUS) is a voluntary

certification program intended to promote efficient
energy use in computer power supply units (PSUs).

Launched in 2004 by Ecos Consulting, it certifies

products that have more than 80% energy
efficiency at 20%, 50% and 100% of rated load,
and a power factor of 0.9 or greater at 100%
load.

Such PSUs waste 20% or less electric energy as

heat at the specified load levels, reducing
electricity use and bills compared to less efficient
PSUs.

The CE mark, or formerly EC mark, is a mandatory conformity

marking for certain products sold within the European Economic
Area(EEA) since 1985.

The CE marking is also found on products sold outside the EEA that are
manufactured in, or designed to be sold in, the EEA. This makes the CE
marking recognizable worldwide even to people who are not familiar
with the European Economic Area.

It is in that sense similar to the FCC Declaration of Conformity used on

certain electronic devices sold in the United States.

GS-MARK

The GS Mark, which stands for Geprfte Sicherheit in German and

means Safety Tested, is a licensed mark of the German government
and may only be issued by an accredited product safety testing and
certification agency.

There are three particular areas where a GS-Mark is nearly a

necessity: tools, IT equipment and electro medical equipment

Any product bearing the GS Mark indicates that it was tested and
complies with the minimum requirements of the German Product
Safety Act (a.k.a. ProdSG).

S MARK
The S Mark is a symbol which shows that electrical and
electronic products have been independently tested and
certified by a third party, Intertek , and that they comply with
applicable European safety requirements.

As a part of the certification, a yearly inspection of the

manufacturing site is included.

The purpose of the inspection is to verify that the

manufacturer has a well-functioning production control
system, which ensures that the product always fulfils the
requirements.

NEMKO
Norges Elektriske Materiellkontroll (NEMKO) is a Norwegian private
organization that supervises safety testing for electrical equipment
manufacturing.

The Nemko Group offers testing, inspection and certification services

concerning products, machinery, installations and systems worldwide.

The well-known N-mark is a certification mark based on Nemko's

own testing or results from testing performed by often labratory
according to multi-national or bi-lateral agreement or by otherwise
Nemko accepted labratories including all authorized manufacturers.

UL & CSA CERTIFICATIONS

The term UL Approved technically incorrect. UL uses the terms UL

Listed or UL Recognized for their certification.

This mark applies to power supplies that will be used independently,

such as laboratory supplies, external power supplies, or DIN-rail-mount
supplies, as well as most consumer electronics (computers, heaters,
appliances, etc.). The certification of power supplies that are considered
to be component parts because they will be incorporated into an endproduct, as are most power supplies.

In addition, this mark is used on many safety-critical electronic and

electrical components such as printed circuit boards, switches, capacitors
.etc.
