Guidelines and Agreement

GENERAL RULES
1. The competition accepts ALL GENRES of film and is open to ALL AGES.

2. All submissions must fit within the guidelines of dealing with what it means to be in a "Relationship" or
what it means to have a "relationship" of some nature.

"Relationship" is defined as a love between a husband and wife, a love for a pet, a material possession of
some value, etc.

3. SUBMITTED FILMS WITH NUDITY OR EXPLICIT SEXUAL CONTENT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED UNDER ANY
CIRCUMSTANCES.

4. Entry Fees are non refundable.

5. All films must be in English, subtitled in English, or dubbed in English.

6. All films must be submitted on DVD (NTSC) for judging. NO PAL VIDEOS ACCEPTED! Please label all
materials with the title, running time, director name, and WAB ID number. Do not send film prints, master
media or other originals. Soul 4 Reel is not responsible for materials lost, undelivered, or miscarried by
the mail.

7. All jury decisions are final.

8. Soul 4 Reel reserves the right to adjust screening schedules of films at the discretion of Soul 4 Reel
without any notice.

Maximum runtime for Shorts is 60 minutes.

Maximum runtime for Short Shorts is 30 minutes.
Maximum runtime for Music Videos is 10 minutes.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

"Relationship" is defined as a love between a husband and wife, a love for a pet, a love between friends, a
material possession of some value, etc.

SUBMITTED FILMS WITH NUDITY OR EXPLICIT SEXUAL CONTENT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

Applicants must agree to warrant and represent that the materials submitted do not infringe the
copyrights or any other rights of any person or entity and holds Soul 4 Reel Film Festival, its agents,
sponsors, representatives, directors, employees, volunteers and associates harmless from any action
caused by the submission, selection and screening of the material submitted by applicant.

When we talk about a “screener,” we mean a DVD (NTSC) sent to the festival for consideration. This is not
an invitation for your film to play at the festival. When we talk about a “print,” we mean a DVD copy of
the film which is suitable for projection once the film is selected and officially invited to play at the festival.
Please Note: Screeners WILL NOT be returned. Please DO NOT send Masters of your work

Preview media must be labeled with the title, running time, director name, and WAB ID number. Do not
send film prints, master media or other originals. Soul 4 Reel, its members, directors, employees, and
volunteers are not responsible for lost, misplaced, and undelivered film and media.

Films must be sent to Soul 4 Reel, 7770 Marlboro Pike Forestville, Maryland USA. (a) Do not value the
package any higher than $10 USD. (b) Do not send media in fiber-filled envelopes as the dust can damage
media and viewing equipment. (c) Submissions may not be withdrawn from the Festival once they have
been entered, except at the sole discretion of the Festival directors. (d) There are no refunds for entries
with incomplete entry forms, or incorrectly formatted preview materials.

Submissions MUST include completed submission forms and submission check or money order. If
paperwork is missing, the screener will not be viewed by the festival programmers.

You can submit more than one film. Each film must have its own submission form, entry fee and DVD.
Mark your name and the film's title on the case and on the DVD. Making of, deleted scenes and other
extra sequences are not considered part of the submission.

All submission fees are non-refundable. Each film submitted is subject to separate entry fees. Multiple
submissions should be sent in a SEPARATE mailing package with WAB ID number (if applicable) on each.
Please submit payment in the form of a check or money order made payable to The Soul Factory or
submit using a credit card online at www.withoutabox.com. There will be a $20 service charge for all
checks returned by your bank for insufficient funds or unpaid.

Selection Process: Our priority deadline is Saturday January 2, 2010. Our late deadline is Saturday
January 16, 2010. All submitters will be notified as to whether or not their film has been selected by
February 12, 2010. If selected, you will receive your invite via email by February 19, 2010.

SUBMITTING A SHORT, MUSIC VIDEO OR SHORT SHORT, THE FOLLOWING APPLIES: If your film is
selected, you will receive an official email invitation to play at the festival and we require that you accept
or decline the invitation by email. The print must be DVD format (NTSC). All costs getting an invited
print to the festival are your responsibility. Please do not send a work-in-progress or rough cut. IN
ADDITION You will be notified of safe receipt of your screener and/or print. IF APPLICABLE, please send
press kits with screeners. Please be sure and submit properly formatted work. The festival will be forced
to cancel your screening if you supply an incompatible format.

FOR INVITED SHORTS, MUSIC VIDEOS, and SHORT SHORTS: Each selected film-maker is entitled to two
complimentary tickets for their screening. These are passes for the full festival day of your screening.
Soul 4 Reel is unable to provide financial compensation for travel expenses or additional expenses
incurred during the Festival week. As the festival attracts considerable press coverage; any film-makers
attending the festival are requested to make themselves available for interview and photo-call. If
selected, we encourage you to provide, in good time, stills, posters, press kits and/or other promotional
materials. These must be sent at your own cost and are not returned. We do not accept images by email
unless zipped or compressed.

PUBLICITY AND MARKETING. All selected films may be excerpted for publicity purposes. Soul 4 Reel
reserves the right to promote any film to print, broadcast or internet media as required to market the
Festival. THEATRICAL SCREENINGS. By accepting inclusion in Soul 4 Reel, the filmmaker grants non-
exclusive rights to showcase their film during the festival week in as many screenings as required. This
includes the competition screenings and possibly the “Best Of” showcase which will play some time after
competition ends. In addition, Soul 4 Reel has non-exclusive rights to repeat the showcases throughout
the year in Maryland and Georgia for fund raising purposes.
