CEE 4624- Planning of Transportation Facilities
(T, Th. 2:00 3:15 p.m.)
(Room: Patton 215)

Course Objectives: This course is designed to be a blend of theory and real-world practices. It covers both
the forecasting of travel demand and the evaluation of transportation alternatives including the estimation of
transportation impacts. The student will gain a level of understanding of:
Urban travel Demand Forecasting (TDF) (Traditional Four-Step Process)
How TDF is used to support planning activities
Hands on use of a computer software package for Travel Demand Forecasting
The transportation evaluation process
The estimation methodologies
The derivation of monetary measures, and their application to a real world example.
To learn and comprehend the role of Intelligent Transportation Systems in providing solutions to
transportation problems.

grade: 4 misses= 4 points; 5 misses = 6 points; 6 and above misses =10 points.
Assignments are to be delivered when the class starts. No late assignments will be accepted unless there is
a very justifiable reason for you to miss it (e.g., family emergencies or medical visits. These emergencies
require verification from family member and Doctor respectively). The course grading scheme is as follows:

Honor Code
The Virginia Tech Honor Code applies to all work in this class, including homework, project and examinations.
When written work is submitted for grading, it is implied that the work is the sole effort of the person, or
persons, whose name(s) appears on the paper. You may seek help on the principles involved in the homework
problems, and you may talk to each other about these principles, but you are not to copy the work of another
person or allow another person to work a problem for you. Special provisions apply to the group homework
