How to get IOPs stats

This question has been Answered.

jmedcraft Aug 5, 2013 8:17 AM

Hi,
Apologies for my naivety for this question but I am still relatively new to HDS. I have a predominantly
NetApp background (as well as others) so my HDS knowledge is currently scant.
I have two AMS2500 SANs and I need to extract IOPs stats from both SANs. I have access to the Hitachi
Command Suite 7 toolset and have also access to the Storage Navigator as well as Tuning Manager. I
require the IOPs stats for all Logical Drives/Volumes.
Please advise me if I have posted this in the wrong 'place'.
Thank you all in anticipation.
Kind Regards

Hi Justin,
Tuning Manager is the right tool for viewing performance information for arrays, as well as switches and
servers. There are different Tuning Manager agent types for the various devices. To monitor arrays, you
need the Agent for RAID type. Here's a basic outline of what you need to do to deploy it:
1. Register the array in Device Manager
2. Install the agent on a server. The agent supports most of the common OS types:
Windows, Linux, Solaris, AIX, etc... You can even install it on the Tuning Manager
server.
3. Add an entry for the Tuning Manager server in the file C:\Program Files
(x86)\HiCommand\TuningManager\jp1pc\jpchosts. This is assuming you're using a
Windows server that isn't the same server as HTnM.
4. Run C:\Program Files (x86)\HiCommand\TuningManager\jp1pc\tools\jpcnshostname -s
name_of_server_jpchosts
5. Run C:\Program Files (x86)\HiCommand\TuningManager\jp1pc\tools\jpcinssetup agtd
-inst array2500_name
6. Fill in the information
7. Run C:\Program Files (x86)\HiCommand\TuningManager\jp1pc\tools\jpcstart all
8. It might take up 24 hours for the array to be listed in Tuning Manager's Main Console.
However, you can check Performance Reporter immediately to see if it was
registered correctly.

More information can be found in the document Tuning Manager Software Installation Guide.

Tuning Manager can do this for you. There are many ways to report on IOPS. You can report on how
many IOPS each Port is doing, how many IOPS each LUN is doing, etc.. Since you are interested in
Logical Volumes you would be reporting at the iLUN/LDEV level.

I would suggest the Manual "Hitachi Command Suite Tuning Manager Software User Guide MK92HC022-32"

Just to make sure you know, apart from storage, you could also run agents for the FC switches as well as
the Servers. This might help to co-relate the data from the tuning manager for storage specs in case of
some troubleshooting. The procedure is exactly same as shown by Dang, but the agents are different
agtw for switch and agtu for server , make sure to disable the ipv6 using the jpcnsconfig . I had some
issues due to this.
# /opt/jp1pc - cat jpccomm.ini | more
./jpcnsconfig ipv6 disable -> restart the services.
