Literary Valentines Project

1. Select any two characters from any NOVELS you have read. (Characters do not have to be from
the same story.) You MAY NOT use a novel that has been made into a movie!
2. Create a valentine which would be given by one character to the other character.
a. Make sure to demonstrate knowledge of each character
i. Don’t use summary alone to do this!
ii. Do include relevant details using the characters personality, prior actions, etc.
b. Make sure to explain/demonstrate WHY the sender would choose to send the valentine
to the recipient.
3. Use creativity in constructing the valentine.
a. HOW would your sender express himself/herself?
i. Literary devices: poetry, prose, humorous verse, blank verse, metaphors,
similes, etc.
ii. Be sure the words reflect the character and their reasons for sending this
particular valentine
b. WHAT materials might your sender use to express his/her feelings?
i. Materials: construction paper, markers, sequins, stickers, paint, string, glitter,
etc.
ii. Be creative in use/application of materials.
iii. Be creative in packaging. What might best represent your character?
4. Remember that your valentine will be evaluate based on the following criteria:
a. creativity
b. construction
c. grammar/mechanics
d. literary content
