17 to 25 carry three marks each and questions No. 27 to 29 carry five marks each. questions no.
26 carrying four marks weightage is value based question.

1. Name the physical quantity whose SI unit is volt/meter. Is it a scalar or a vector quantity?
2. Show graphically the variation of magnetic field due to a straight conductor of uniform
cross-section of radius a and carrying steady currently as a function of distance r (a > r)
from the axis of the conductor.?
3. Why cant transformer be used to step up or step down dc voltage?
4. Name em radiations used for detecting fake currency notes?
5. What is the shape of fringes in youngs double slit experiment?
6. A metal emits photoelectrons when red light falls on it. Will this metal emit photoelectrons
when blue light falls on it?
7. Draw a circuit diagram showing the biasing of a photodiode?

9. Derive an expression for the work done in rotating an electric dipole from its equilibrium
position to an angle with the uniform electrostatic field?
10.Two manganin wires whose lengths are in the ratio 1 : 2 and whose resistances are in the
ratio 1 : 2 are connected in series with a battery. What will be the ratio of drift velocities of
free electrons in the two wires?
11.In a potentiometer arrangement, a cell of emf 1.25V gives a balance point at 35 cm length
of the wire. If the cell is replaced by another cell, then the balance point shifts to 63 cm.
What is the emf of the second cell?
12.A circular coil of n turns and radius R carries a current I. It is unwound and rewound to
make another square coil of side a keeping number of turns and current same. Calculate
the ratio of magnetic moment of the new coil and the original coil ?
13.The self inductance of the motor of an electric fan is 10H. What should be the capacitance
of the capacitor to which it should be connected in order to impart maximum power at
50Hz?
14.How does an inductor behave in a DC circuit after the current reaches to steady state?

15. List any three properties of EM waves?
16.Show that maximum intensity in interference pattern is four times the intensity due to
each slit if amplitude of light emerging from slits is same?
17.What is amplitude modulation? Derive the equation of an amplitude modulated wave?
18.What is p-n junction? How is p-n junction made? How is potential barrier developed in a pn junction?
19.Find the shortest wavelength present in the (i) Paschen series (ii) Balmer series of spectral
lines?

20.A proton is accelerated through a potential difference V. Find the percentage increase or
decrease in its deBroglie wavelength if potential difference is increased by 21%.
21.Explain the effect of increase of (i) frequency (ii) intensity of the incident radiation on
photo electrons emitted by a metal.
22.State the condition under which the phenomenon of diffraction of light takes place. Derive
an expression for the width of the central maximum due to diffraction of light at a single
slit. Also draw the intensity pattern with angular position.
23.Calculate the magnetic field due to a circular coil of 500 turns and of mean diameter 0.1m,
carrying a current of 14A (i) at a point on the axis distance 0.12m from the centre of the
coil (ii) at the centre of the coil. ?
24.State Biot-Savart law. Use it to obtain the magnetic field at an axial point, distance d from
the centre of a circular coil of radius a and carrying current I. Also compare the
magnitudes of the magnetic field of this coil at its centre and at an axial point for which
the value of d is 3 a?
25.Define drift velocity. A conductor of length L is connected to a dc source of emf E. If the
length of conductor is tripled by stretching it, keeping E constant, explain how do the
following factors would vary in the conductor? (i) Drift speed of electrons (ii) Resistance
and (iii) Resistivity
26.Shoma was trying to heat water by means of immersion rod (connected directly to the
main power supply) in a glass vessel containing water. As she tried to put her finger into
the water to check if the water was warm enough, her teacher cautioned her against
doing it. Based on the above information, answer the following questions :
(i) What value did Shomas teacher display by giving this advice ? (ii) Why is it considered
dangerous to touch water when current is being passed into it ? Will it be safer if Shoma
had used distilled water ? (iii) Give an example where you have displayed or observed
someone else displaying similar value in real life situation
27.Draw a ray diagram to show the passage of a ray of light through a triangular prism. Use
this diagram to obtain the relation for the refractive index of the material of the prism in
terms of the angle of minimum deviation and the angle of the prism. Plot the nature of the
graph for the angle of deviation versus the angle of incidence in a prism.
28.OR
(a) Define a wavefront. Given the shape of a wavefront as a plane wave at time t = 0,
show using Huygens construction, (i) how the envelopes of secondary wavelets produce
the plane wave at a later time t and (ii) how the emergent wavefront becomes spherical
and converges to the focus after passing through a convex lens ?
(b) Verify using Huygens principle, Snells law of refraction of a plane wave propagating
from a denser to a rarer medium.
29.(a) Derive, with the help of a suitable diagram, the expression (in vector form) for the
torque acting on a rectangular loop of area A carrying current I, placed in a uniform
magnetic field B.(b) Mention the conditions under which (i) the above expression for the
torque is applied in moving coil galvanometer; (ii) the sensitivity of the moving coil
galvanometer is increased.
OR
(a) Give a brief description using necessary diagrams, of the three elements (quantities)
required to specify the magnetic field of the Earth at a point on its surface. Also write the
necessary formulae used. (b) Specimens of a paramagnetic material and a diamagnetic
material are placed in a uniform magnetic field. Draw the behaviour of
magnetic field lines near these specimens. Justify your answer.
30.With the help of circuit diagram of an npn transister in common emitter mode, explain its
use as an amplifier.Drawn the output versus input voltage curve and mark region in which
the transister is used a amplifier.

OR
Draw forward and reverse characterestic curves of a pn junction diode. Explain briefly with
the help of a circuit diagram, how a pn junction diode works as a full wave rectifier. If
frequency of input ac signal is f what is the frequency of output.
