Property Collector
In the previous lectures you looked at creating two
types of collectors in HyperMesh (Radioss):
component & material collector
In this class you will learn to create the property
collector in HyperMesh (Radioss)
Property collector is needed to define the crosssectional properties of the component meshed
Similar to material collector, the property collector
needs to be assigned to the component collector
whose cross-section has been defined by the
property collector

Types of Property Collectors

Similar to material collectors, HyperMesh
(Radioss) has many options available for
defining the element property
Keeping in mind the scope of the class, we will
be limiting our study to the following property
collectors:
1D Elements: PROD, PBAR, PBARL, PBEAM,
PBEAML
2D Elements (Shell): PSHELL, PCOMP (maybe)
3D Elements (Solid): PSOLID

PROD
Defines the cross-sectional properties of a rod or bar
Best to use for CROD elements

ME 741: Properties

JT

PBAR
Defines the cross-sectional properties of simple beam or bar or rod
Can be used for either CROD or CBEAM elements

Element in 3D representation
(illustration purpose only)

ME 741: Properties

JT

PBARL
Defines the properties of simple beam, bar or rod by listing the crosssectional dimensions
Can be used for both CROD and CBEAM elements

Leave the GROUP parameter blank

You can pick any of the standard cross-sections given
in the TYPE parameter
Based on the cross-section you have picked, you
need to define the required dimensions DIMi

PBEAM
Defines the cross-sectional properties of beam
Used for CBEAM elements

ME 741: Properties

JT

PBEAM
The parameters (2)-(8) are defined
similar to PBAR card
The end A (or a) is the starting end of
the element OR the end represented
by node n1
Similarly, end B (or b) is the end
represented by node n2
In order to output the stresses in the
beam elements, set SO parameter to
YES
The parameter I12 = I1*I2
For this card to work setting
parameters (2)-(8) is enough

ME 741: Properties

JT

PBEAML
Defines the properties of beam by inputting the cross-sectional dimensions
Used for CBEAM element

The parameters in this card are defined similar to

the PBARL card

PSHELL
Defines the properties of a shell element
Best used for isotropic materials, but can also be assumed for orthotropic
materials

The basic parameters to be defined are (2)-(4)

PSOLID
Defines properties of solid
elements
For any solid element, this
is the only property card
available
The only parameters
needed are (2) and (3)
