OPR Designer
To do what?

OPR Designer has been developed to ease the life of the persons in
charge of implementing Lightning Protection Systems using mainly ESE
lighting rods.

This software is made to find the most optimized solution in the shortest
time possible.

Solution given is the selection of lightning rods, their positions, every

installation elements such as fixing accessories but also earthing system.

We can get the bill of material at any time of the selection or editable in
excel file.

Finally a complete pdf file summarize the whole project including :

.Lightning rods positioned in the imported layout (that can be
photo, drawing or AutoCAD) with radius of protection.
. Localization of lightning rods on the layout
. Global or detailed bill of material
. Catalogue pages of related products used in the bill of material

Within one project, several quotations may be created. One project may be the protection
of a complete industrial site, and there is may be several quotations corresponding to
each building of this particular site.
first step is then to create a quotation within the project using the button Add and
naming it.

Conductor may be chosen for the whole quotation (eg tinned copper in this case)

Margin in % to give extra conductors and accessories. It is a safety margin added to

the theoretical length of conductor calculated by the software.

Add : create a new quotation

Modify : change name of one existing quotation.

Duplicate : can be used to copy an existing quotation in order to re use it. In this case it is
advised to update the revision number.

Delete : Delete quotation

When starting a new quotation :

First step is to import a ground layout (AutoCAD drawings, photos

such as Google earth images, keep in mind that it always has to be
a top view of the building)

Define scale of the drawing : to do so only one dimension must be

known, the software is putting at right scale automatically the
complete drawing.

Create geometrical forms onto the drawing

using these 3 tools.

The building has to be modelized in the software using these

preformed forms that are placed one on top of the others. The first
shape defines the base of the building.

All others geometrical forms created after and placed on top of the
first one will increment its high.

Definition of each element
Structure designation and possibility to secure it. When this box
is ticked the structure cannot be moved by mistake later on,
when adding other structure.
Structure dimensions. Length and width to be defined only
when creating drawing without inserting ground layout if not
calculated automatically in regard to the first dimension given
when inserting the ground layout.
Indicate level of protection.
Indicate also if any interdiction to place ESE or even regular
lightning rods on some parts of the building or on the complete
structure.
ICPE is only used in France for specific sites that refers to a
specific regulation.

Indicate structure characteristics : walls & roof

Basic fixations are proposed as standards, however when
other accessories available for the same job, there is the
possibility to select within our selection.

Setting lightning rod fixations

Once software has calculated automatic ESE

positioning. Click on ESE to define type of fixation
according to roof proprieties.

Define on what type of structure the lighting rod will

be fixed.
Different solution available for the type of structure
selected.

Possibility to remove mast proposed as standard

Possibility to remove counter proposed as standard
Choice can be made to deliver or not the ESE
and its support, in that case they will not appear
in the bill of material.

Earthing definition
Define on what type of structure the lighting rod will
be fixed.
Possibility to select preferred earthing system (duck
foot, triangular or grid)

Possibility to select inspection pit from our complete

offer.

Possibility to deliver totally or partially, earthing

system, down conductor.

Manual selection

You may also use this software in a manual mode meaning that
instead of using the red button that launches the automatic mode of
selection you may implement yourself the required ESE at the place
you think it is necessary using the following icons :
Add simple rod
Add OPR 30
Add OPR 60

First select the element where you want to install the rod and then
click on the above button and if necessary move the rod using the
mouse, or even delete it if not as you wish using the bin icon.

Manual selection

If the element is not completely covered by your selection of rod it will

appear the unprotected zone in red color.
