Sleeve cap
work both the same
The sleeve cap is shaped with short rows and should be worked
back and forth beginning at the marked point with the right side
facing. Work sleeve cap with larger circular needle, leaving picked
up stitches resting on smaller needles until they are incorporated
as the short rows get longer and longer. When the sleeve cap is
complete the sleeve will be worked in rounds with the beginning of
the round at the underarm.
Row 1 (RS): k14 sts, turn.
Next row: p4, pm, work 10 sts in sleeve cable pattern
beginning with Row 2, pm, p4, turn.
You will continue to work the 10 sts between markers in sleeve
cable pattern and all other stitches in stockinette as established.
Work the rest of the sleeve purling the first st of rnd on alternate
rnds, maintaining sleeve cable pattern as established, and
knitting all other sts, following the shaping directions below.
**Work 11[11, 11, 11, 11, 10] (10, 10, 10, 7, 5) [4, 4, 4, 3, 3, 3] rnds
even.
Next rnd: work 1 st, ssk, work in patt to 3 sts from end, k2tog, k1.
Rep from ** 4[4, 4, 4, 4, 5] (5, 5, 7, 10, 11) [12, 13, 14, 14, 15] more
times. 51[53, 57, 59, 63, 63] (65, 67, 67, 69, 71) [73, 73, 75, 77, 79] sts.
Work 11[11, 11, 11, 11, 5] (5, 5, 7, 5, 11) [6, 1, 11, 11, 7] rnds even.
Right sleeve only: work 2 rnds in patt removing markers on last
rnd and stopping 7 sts before sleeve cable panel. Break yarn and set
sleeve aside leaving sts on needles.
Left sleeve only: work next rnd in patt removing all markers; k 6
sts past the cable panel. Break yarn and set sleeve aside leaving sts
on needles or holder if necessary.
CUFF
With larger circular needle, cast on 17 sts. Cuff is worked back and
forth and joined to the live stitches of the sleeve at the end of each
RS row.
Row 1 (RS): sl1, k to 1 st from end, ssk (joining 1 st from cuff
to 1 st from sleeve).
Row 2: sl1, (k1, p3) twice, (k1, p1) twice, k3, p1.
Row 3: sl1, k to 1 st from end, sssk (joining 1 st from cuff to 2 sts
from sleeve).
Row 4: rep row 2.
line up seams on pocket with knit stitches on pocket edge, fold seam
allowances from sides of pocket to one side and stitch all around
opening. With right side facing push pocket to inside and press
fabric edges. Slipstitch bottom of pocket to border of cardigan on
the inside so that pockets don't droop.
FRONT BORDER
Return held stitches for right and then left front to larger circular.
Beginning at bottom edge of right front: sl1, k right front sts; pick up
and knit sts across back neck, picking up 4 sts along each diagonal
edge and 1 st for every stitch across bound-off edge; k to end.
Slipping 1st st of every row work 33[37, 37, 37, 41, 43] (43, 47, 47,
47, 55) [55, 55, 57, 57, 57] rows in garter st beg and ending with a
WS row.
Work I-cord bind off as follows: with RS facing cable cast on 2 sts
next to first stitch, *k2, ssk, slip 3 sts just worked back to left needle
tip, rep from * until all stitches from front border have been bound
off. Break yarn and draw through rem 3 sts.
FINISHING
Turn pocket edges to inside and sew up small holes on either side.
Weave in ends. Block to measurements shown.
POCKET LININGS
Fold fabric right sides together and cut around pocket template, on
page 12, twice (4 pieces). Finish straight edges in a way appropriate
for your fabric (zig-zag, pinking, etc.) With right sides together sew
pairs together around curved edge and finish seam allowance, bias
binding makes a particularly neat finish. Turn pocket inside out
and, with wrong sides facing insert pocket through hole in sweater
so that fabric extends approx. " beyond bind off edge. Take care to
