Day 2 at Colossus rendered us awestruck with a similar feel, as we held our breath and
witnessed ye dil maange more come alive. A spellbinding day, it painted on to the Colossus
canvasjust the perfect shades of sportsmanship, drama, dance and music. We saw a lot of
victories in sports and defeats as well. But what we did see for sure was excellent
sportsmanship, camaraderie and the competitive spirit that is intrinsic in Colossus. Drama
was just another facet which demonstrated multiple talents possessed by the participants in
the things that they do and the way they do it. Music created a beautiful symphony of cheer,
mirth and excitement amongst the audience and the bands themselves were thrilled to perform
infront of such an endearing crowd which never failed to motivate the bands to give their best.
Dance got the audience into the groove and up on their feet as the participants doled out
some crazy moves before them and showed them how to jive!
The
bands
faced
tough
Jaan, a very elucidating song which taught us how to get a funti2!. The night saw some
intensely entertaining compeering by Rohan Nadimpally, who stunned (read appalled, just
kidding!) the awesome original musical piece
called
Hamri Gaiyya,
and Akshay
Shandilya! Special Edition Xpress absolutely killed it with covers from bands such as
Judas Priest, Metallica, Motorhead. Nimitt Dixit gave guest vocals in his Tie In
Arrangement with the band and enthralled the audience with the cover of Coming back to
Life by Pink Floyd!
DRAMA
Drama is most often associated with the idea of action. This is because drama is
intended for performance, and can 'bring to life' things that would ordinarily be 2
dimensional. When I think of drama I often think of it as a story about events in
the lives of characters, but this is not always the case. Examples of drama can be
found everywhere; we can find it as written text, a piece of theatre and on our
television and cinema screens. The purpose of these pieces of drama varies but
they also have things in common. This is because drama does not have one
purpose but several.
HNLU witnessed some class acts yesterday evening as some stoic performances were
delivered by the students in the Nukkad Naatak Event. The teams embraced this art form
and owned it as if it were imbibed in their very beings.
NIT took centre stage in the event as it won not only that event but the hearts of the
audience as they beautifully transgressed the fine lines between drama and reality and the
characters were no longer restricted to the mere but evolved into entities of the real world
and not just to the script.
DANCE
Dance a form of art, a way of life, an emotion, a passion and one of the most contagious
things to have ever existed on this earth. It's like you cannot resist giving into the rhythm as
you watch the maestros romance the beats
with their every single move.
The evening unfolded into a similar affair,
when the stage was pumped up to the
beats of Bollywood chartbusters from
"Leke pehla pehla pyaar" to "Albela
Sajan Aayo" and "India Waale". The
night was marked by a diversity of
A special mention, to the exuberant and elegant performance by our very own
Random Tributes
#1.A tribute to Chirag and Dinesh who kept the drum set from falling apart. They ensured
that the S.E.X. didnt stop. They were an integral part of the band, the sole compensation
to shaky equipment, the plaster to our broken bones. The Brobdingandfaf salutes these
behind the scenes people who stayed in the 'dark' to make sure that what we see and what we
hear turns out to be nothing short of perfect.
#2.To the people who 'spontaneously' in an upsurge of emotion caught Sanjay Sugumaran
as soon as he made his not so pre-meditated jump which NO ONE WAS
SUPPOSED TO KNOW ABOUT *wink wink*.
#3 To Mr Rohit Bhattacharya, whose Pink Floyd solo would've rendered many a maidens
to croon his name. But sadly, the ladies had all left. No wonder Mr Rohit has to make do with
Anant Joshi.
#4 To Mr Mayank Dastane who looks like a Cuban drug peddler but disappoints many
when he's asked for some goan stuff but, he never disappoints on stage.
#5 To Shakti Bamal for casually legalizing gambling
#6 To the first aid team that needed first aid FIRST. *Cough* Shrivastava *Cough*
#7 To the disguisedly unemployed editorial board who still cannot figure out how to
pronounce brobdingbhfbagbsgsv3.
