Dear Friend,
Greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and from everyone here
at the church. Though we've had a lot of snow here in Connecticut there is still the
promise of spring! Don't worry: God's Word promises the seasons will change!
Genesis 8:22 says, "While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold
and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease." Spring is
on its way before you know it!
There is a beautiful verse of Scripture that always helps me when things seem
to be out of sorts. Isaiah 41: 13 says, "For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right
hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee." No matter what my
circumstances tell me, I must believe what God's Word tells me! That is called faith.
Faith is not blind, but is based on what God says. If the Bible tells me the Lord is
with me, I must believe He meant it! He is with me. Regardless of the situation, He
will never leave me or forsake me. That's what He said. If I can grasp that, I cannot
be defeated. Though the battles rage on sometimes, you and I are on the winning
side because the Lord has never been defeated! He took death and defeated it by His
resurrection! He took sin and nailed it on the cross. He took guilt and shame upon
His own body so we could have peace with God. Many of our biggest problems and
anxieties and depressions are simply because we try to struggle and battle and work
things out on our own, not knowing the Lord Jesus defeated these thoughts, feelings,
actions, and problems for us. He knew we couldn't overcome them on our own. You
are not a bad person: just a person who needs help from Jesus Christ. And help is
available to the person who calls on His name!
The prophet Jeremiah wrote these words in the midst of a horrible time period
in the history of Israel. His homeland was divided and many people were brought
into captivity. Those that remained in the land of Judah were about to be captured
because of their sins, and Jeremiah was overwhelmed. He wrote these words of a
prayer, "Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon Thee: Thou saidst, Fear
not" (Lamentations 3:57). It was his experience that told him the Lord never runs
when trouble is brewing! He draws near to us when we draw near to Him. But He
doesn't just hide in the shadows all the time. He tells us, "Fear not," just as He did to
Jeremiah. His presence brings peace when fear seems to grip our hearts. His perfect
love casts out all fear and anxiety.

Many times when things go wrong, we tend to pray for the Lord to fix it. And
if it doesn't happen the way we want, we blame God for the mess. But a lot of times
it's not the outward problem that needs to be fixed: it's the inner problem. If my heart
is right with God, then everything else will fall into place. Remember, this is a fallen
world because humanity disobeyed God from the beginning. Our greatest need is not
outward. These things bring us to the place where we pray and draw close to the
Lord. If we give our hearts to the Lord and allow Him to change us, the outward
situation will change for the better. But the most important part, our hearts, will be
fixed. You may ask, "How do I do that?" Just simply ask Him to come to you and
help you. Ask Him to forgive your sins (we all have them!). Ask Him to cleanse you
from everything that is contrary to His ways. Ask Him to give you strength to
overcome those sins and weak areas that so easily beset you. And ask Him to abide
with you forever. From that moment on, completely trust Him to lead you and guide
you into all truth, for the truth will make you free. Living for Jesus every day keeps
you free from from falling into the old patterns that set you up for a fall. Praying and
giving your heart to the Lord each day will bring His presence to you. His presence
is the fullness of joy. It is love, peace, gentleness, meekness, faith, and every good
thing. His presence will keep you from a sinful life and will be a light to your path.
You can't achieve this on your own. Only by faith in Jesus Christ will your life be
changed into the image God intended for you and me to have originally. Only by
obeying God's Word will you find shame and guilt vanish from your heart and mind.
It is not a good life-style: it's the only life-style, for it is life. Jesus said, "Except a
man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3).
One of the best ways to live an overcoming life is to continually hear the Word
of God and to be in the presence of the Lord. So I invite you to our services, where
your faith can be built up and strengthened. We meet at 624 Torringford West Street,
in Torrington, CT. Our schedule of services is Sunday at 10 AM and 7 PM, and
Wednesday at 7:30 PM.
May God richly bless you and keep you in His care.
Sincerely,

Rev. Daniel Bossidy
