Front-Line National Security Workers Will Lose over $2,000 Per Pay Period in a DHS Shutdown

Congressional Republicans have debated internally for nearly three months on how to block President Obamas
directives on immigration, but now appear prepared to shut down the Department of Homeland Security while
they dither. There are obvious reasons this action is dangerous, including the impact on our national security.
But, while many DHS employees will still be required to work and stand on the front-lines to protect our national
security, Republicans would have them do it without payat least until DHS gets a full appropriation.
The average Border Patrol agent is a hard-working, middle class American. So are those who work at
Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Secret Service and the U.S. Coast Guard. They are being asked to
defend our country, but they may not be able to feed their families. If congressional Republicans continue to
play political games with our national security, they are also leaving those responsible for our security, and their
families, out in the cold. These are some of the people protecting our nation without pay:
