THE HOUSE RULES1


I
PRELIMINARY MATTERS
RULE 1.

Title. This issuance shall be known as the House Rules.2

RULE 2.
Applicability. The House Rules shall be applicable in all classes being
administered by the professor or a duly authorized representative and are without prejudice to
existing rules and regulations promulgated and enforced by MSEUF on the same or similar subject
matter. The latter shall still apply primarily to any and all affairs of the students specifically governed
by it, while the House Rules shall be applicable in a suppletory manner.
Section 2.1.

RULE 3.
Administrative Matters. For ease of administration and communication, point
persons called beadles shall be selected from the class with whom all readings, messages and
instructions shall be coursed through.
Section 3.1.
The number of beadles shall depend on the total population of the
class. Each one shall provide the professor with their contact numbers and email addresses.
The said beadles shall be responsible to the group assigned to them in relaying all readings,
messages and instructions. It is understood that notice to the beadle is considered notice to
the group he or she is assigned to.
Section 3.2.
Any and all concerns, communication or correspondence from
students to the professor shall be, as far as practicable, coursed through the beadles.
RULE 4.
Academic Expectations. Students are, first and foremost, expected to comply
with all the academic requirements of MSEUF. In addition, students are required to:
Section 4.1.
Have in their possession a copy of the House Rules and the
Supplemental Rules on the Conduct of Examinations;
Section 4.2.
Bring at all times copies of the Course Guide and all mandatory
references cited therein;
and,

Section 4.3.

Read and understand ALL assigned materials for the particular week;

Section 4.4.

Perform satisfactorily in examinations.

EXAMINATIONS

RULE 5.
Exam Types. Examinations designed to test comprehension of the assigned
topics will be both oral and written.
RULE 6.
Oral examinations. These exams shall consist of recitations of and debates
among students during the duration of class. The coverage of foregoing shall mainly be dependent
on the particular topic per week, but does not however exclude the possibility of reference to
previous topics for comparison and/or validation purposes. Selection shall be at random, but the
professor reserves the right to call on specific students whenever the situation is fit of such or the
circumstances deem it appropriate.

The House Rules

Section 6.1.
An absence at any instance by any student called to any oral
examination will merit a grade of 65 or its equivalent. This grade will only be cancelled upon
presentation of a valid medical certificate attesting to the need of the student to take leave
from class on the day such student was called to recite or engage in debate.
Section 6.2.
Coaching during recitation or debates is strictly prohibited. For this
purpose, coaching shall included any verbal or written aid, as well as actuations, which
tend to supply answers, explicitly or implicitly, to the student/s undergoing oral
examinations. In the event that there is coaching, the student being coached and those
coaching shall be made liable. All those involved shall share in the grade given to the former,
that is, the grade given divided by the number of students involved in the coaching incident,
and the quotient shall be grade recorded for all the individual students involved in the
coaching incident for that particular oral exam session. This rule shall be understood to be
without prejudice to any and all policies of MSEUF on academic dishonesty.
RULE 7.
Written examinations. These exams on the other hand shall be composed of a
combination of multiple choice and essay questions, and shall be understood as referring to the
Prelims, Midterms, Semifinals or Finals as used in the MSEUF. Due to the nature of the subject
matter, the coverage of the exams shall be cumulative, that is, topics which had been covered in a
particular exam shall still be included in subsequent written exams. While the main focus of the
exam shall be primarily on the current topics, students are still expected to recall and apply concepts
and principles previously discussed. Designation and frequency of these exams, as well as the rules
on academic dishonesty, shall be in accordance with the academic policies of MSEUF.3
RULE 8.

Definitions. For purposes of the Rules:

Section 8.1.
Foundation.

The term MSEUF shall mean the Manuel S. Enverga University

Section 8.2.
A Class is a particular session, period, meeting, or a fraction
thereof, of the total length of time allotted for a course that is being handled, taught and
administered by the professor. For purposes of the House Rules, the term shall also include
make-up classes.
Section 8.3.
A student is a person enrolled in any course being handled, taught
and administered by the professor.
RULE 9.
Separability. Should any provision of the Rules be declared invalid by the
proper authorities, those portions unaffected by the declaration of invalidity shall remain binding in
full force and effect.
RULE 10.
Amendments. Except as herein provided, all issuances and/or rules and
regulations or any part thereof that are inconsistent with the provisions of the House Rules are
hereby repealed or modified accordingly.
RULE 11.
Effectivity. These Rules shall take effect upon issuance and shall remain in
force until subsequently modified, amended or repealed by the professor.
