Never realized that Jay had a problem with you--I think they do not realize the power of your office. If it was the administration I could
better understand the logic.

You can always count on me, too.
AU doesn't seek my advice or even treat me very well. As you know, they allowed
IMG to kick me to the curb....and I am the Speaker of the House!
I left Bryant-Denny at the half. Embarrassing. But to be honest. I really don't care. I
am sure thankful I am not personally responsible for paying that $6 million rights fee
any more! Now that would be stress!
I need to talk to you about several things, including Frazier Lanier. I know you are
working with them and they have approached me. But they want me to become a
broker and actually do the sales. Not sure I have time or the knowledge.
I have secured 8 of the 10 $150,000 investors I need for Craftmaster. That has been
some serious pressure bit I have the taxes paid and the debt drastically reduced.
Just need more business. I sure would like to get it going well am then sell! It has
been nothing but a headache for me.
Also want to talk politics. Maybe 8 can schedule some time with you are the world
headquarters of BR&A in Ashland again soon.
We will miss you in NYC. When are you Gavin the knee replacement?

I hope WE always live up to YOUR standard
Enough of the sentiment !
If Auburn doesn't get you back on board soon ....... the whole school may implode.
I don't know who is managing the PR but its catastrophic . You should offer to do it, and get their
ship righted again--------That is what you are great at doing

Riley's letter was hilarious.........that kid is going on 35 and doing so with a great deal of FLAIR.
NO QUESTION who he gets that from. He may even be better than his Dad.
Lets get together in a couple of weeks and catch up........ things like 2014, the article today, agenda for
next year, AEA's resurgence and alot of other issues ....... we just need to be sure everyone is singing of
the same page with some semblance of harmony.
The ''next year'' or two will be critical to your future ......... and we all must always be cognizant of that fact
with every decision we make ........however we all need to have good time and enjoy life as we do.

I guess I need to tell Jimmy to let the mill bldg go. How big a building do they need
for 75-100 employees. If they are going to start one, I need to try and get them to

Supreme Court really messed things up today. What in the heck is wrong with

I am meeting with Wayne Smith on Monday in Pensacola. Talking to him to see if he

Re: Fwd: Eric

I enjoyed being with you and Mrs. Riley, Governor. Thank you both for spending time with us In
case you didn't know it, you are my all-time hero.
Thank you so much for helping me with the job issue and your concern for me. I really never
thought I'd be in this situation. I understand that my quest to be an effective Speaker - a
Speaker like you were a Governor - has been to the detriment to my personal and financial wellbeing. And I know I have to find a balance.
But I can't shake the belief that I am here in this position for a reason. Plus, I really do enjoy the
challenge. It's just a bad financial decision and I know it. I'm conflicted from doing what I'm best
at and what my talents are.
My worry is that for the first time in my life I don't feel in control and don't know exactly where
I'm going. I've always been a planner with every detail mapped out, so I'm in some unchartered
waters here and it's scary. I know I need to be spending more time and effort in figuring out
how to make a living, but for some reason I can't pull myself away from the political job. Susan
is worried and I understand why.
I have faith that God has a plan, I just wish He would go ahead and reveal it to me!
If you recommend Eric for the Caucus attorney, that's what we will do. I trust your opinion
completely.

FedEx PAC, every PAC that FexEx has influence over, every client that wants access to Shelby.
Just had dinner with Jimmy McLaughlin. He said to tell you hello.
If you will build polling/focus groups into your strategic consulting plans for BR&A clients, that is something that could benefit me.
I still believe that you are a "strategic business consultant", not a lobbyist. You could hire a lobbyist for BR&A - a Riley Team person
who will do it for virtually nothing - which will allow BR&A to hire Auburn Network, Inc. to handle your marketing needs. We could do
media buying, polling, focus groups, design work, printing, anything you need.
Less focus on you and your clients.
Just my opinion.

We passed it in the House last session and Amazon (Fine & Geddie) killed it in the Senate.

This referral came from Phil Musser, who I met with in DC yesterday, by the way. He can
generate more business for BR&A.

The Governor is NOT a lobbyist he is a strategic consultant!!!

Site Visit

Governor:
Is the company you were working on with Rick Lazio still a prospect to do a site visit in Alabama? If so, do you think we can do it in
Greenville (Butler County)?
SEAGD cut my monthly pay in half and some if the mayors want to cut if off completely. I desperately need to get some site visits set
up to show I am generating interest. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

RE: Happy Birthday, Mr. Speaker!!

Thanks, Governor. I am 49 today. Hard to believe.

I wish I was working with you on BR&A. I KNEW it would work!
We are shaking things up at the State House, that's for sure. I need to fire about 4 or 5 people pretty soon to really set the tone that
new sheriffs are in town and in control. I'm sure you read the Lowry article in the Huntsville Times today. I took Contract Review away
from the person who had been feeding all of your contract information to Holmes and others, and she has been told that she is on
very, very thin ice right now.
Bentley had his new legislative person to ask me give him a list of all of our proposed "Anti-AEA legislation". I told her to tell him that
we don't have any "Anti-AEA" legislation planned, but that we do have plenty of pro-teacher and pro-school legislation. Unbelievable.
I need to find out from you how you get anything done when you meet with people non-stop from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. every day. I
don't have time to think or do anything. That has been frustrating.

IMG has never even responded to my consulting proposal.

The BR&A would work great and is, in fact, what I had thought we were going to do. When he
registered as a lobbyist, it messed that up. I hope he can and will unring the bell, but Rob seems
to think it might be a problem. Im not sure. He should be a strategic consultant, not a lobbyist. I

i had another thought about it. (your situation stays on my mind alot). what if dad

State agencies bow to the Speaker

<image001.jpg>
257 ?

257 ?

Last week The Independent reported that

Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard of
Auburn had turned his attention earlier this
year to writing a book on the rise of the
Republican Party in Alabama and his assent
to Speaker of the State House of Representatives.
The planned title of the book is Storm in the
State House and will be published by New
South Books of Montgomery. Hubbard has
said the planned publication date is next

AG0781037

February or March.
The speaker was quoted as saying that the
book would document the Republican
takeover of the State Legislature in the 2010
elec- tions that ended 136-years of
Democrats in control of the lawmak- ing
process in Alabama.
The story also revealed that David Azbell, a
contract employee of the House of
Representatives, will assist Hubbard in
writing and editing the book until the
expected publication date is sometime in the
first quarter of 2012.
In March of this year the House began
paying Azbell $8,000 per month for
unspecified duties related to public relations.
He had pre- viously been paid a total of
$80,000 at $2,000 per month over the
previous three years to assist the House
Republican Caucus.
HUBBARD IS ALSO PRESIDENT OF THE
AUBURN NETWORK, which is owned by IMG
College and was recently purchased from ISP
Sports. State records and other reports I
have seen show that since State Fiscal Year
2008, over $4 million in state funds have
been spent on advertising with the Auburn
Network or its parent compa- ny. This is the
firm which has the contract to broadcast
Auburn foot- ball games and other Auburn
sports events...and, of course, sell
advertising for those events.
It is the observation of most Goat Hill
regulars that Speaker Hub- bard has a
virtual iron grip on the passage or failure of
legislation before the House. Therefore is
there any state agency with legisla- tion and
budgets before the House who would not
want to please the Speaker by patronizing
his business? I doubt it.
Some Capitol observers have suggested that
the very nature of these transactions
between Hubbard or Hubbards business and
state agencies amounts to silent
intimidation. Some have used stronger
language. I know the feeling. I had to deal
with the Legislature when Jimmy Clark was
Speaker.
ACCORDING TO INFORMATION THE
INDEPENDENT HAS RECEIVED, listed below
are the state agencies and departments and
some of the amounts paid to Hubbards
companies:

AG0781038

The Alabama Department of Public Health

has purchased the greatest amount of that
$4 million-plus in advertising, nearly $2.2
million
The Alabama Secretary of State has spent
$135,000. The Alaba- ma Department of
Public Safety, Alabama Department of
Human Resources, The Emergency
Management Authority, The Forever Wild
Trust Fund and the Board of Air Conditioning
and Refrigera- tion Contractors started
purchasing ads after the 2010 General Election when Hubbard was elected Speaker..
The Department of Human Resources paid
$15,000 from the Public Welfare Trust Fund
to the company in December of 2010; the
Department of Public Safety $63,000 in
February of 201l; and the Forever Wild Trust
fund $60,000 in September of this year.
THEN THERE ARE THE PERKS, THE SPEAKER
AND HIS FIRM GET FROM AUBURN:
Several years back it was widely reported in
the media that Hub- bards company
received 547 prime seats, three sky boxes,
and 100 parking passes to every Auburn
football game. Just the prime seats alone
would cost in the range of $40,000. The sky
boxes would be in the hundreds of
thousands. In a parking lot that is certainly
not prime I pay $22 per game, so that
perk, closer to Jordan-Hare Sta- dium, would
probably be worth in the range of $4,000.
Hubbard said at the time the tickets were
given to companies that advertise on Auburn
sports broadcasts and are not used for any
political purpose. Thats my job. Its part of
the package we sell to advertisers, just the
same as every other college network does,
Hubbard said at the time.
Hubbard also reportedly received 225 tickets
for every mens baseball and basketball
game and 150 tickets for each womens basketball game and gymnastics meet in
addition to six seats on the charter jets to
Auburn away games.
There have been suggestions around the
legislature that the Speaker has rewarded
his friends and fellow legislators with some
of these perks. If that has happened I
wouldnt suggest there is an explicit quid pro
quo attached, but such might not even be
neces- sary.

It is so good to hear from you and so much more exciting to see you in Paris than in Alabama. I
will see if I can squeeze out another invite to our Tea at the Ritz, which is being held at George
V Hotel on Sunday, 16 June, at 4pm. They keep telling me we are full, but there is always room
for one more very important person!!! The Ritz is undergoing renovation so we had to move for
this year. I am sure you are going to the AL Reception, so we can just spend the afternoon and
night catching up (in between working the room)

Will you be at the show Monday-Wednesday? If so, we can get together there for afternoon
tea at our chaletnot as fancy as the Ritz, but great place to watch the air show from our deck.

By the way, there is an Aerospace Alliance Seine River Cruise on Sunday at 11will you be
there?

I will let you know soon about the invite to the tea on Sunday! Hugs,

Hello my friend! I hope all is well with you and ATK.

Any chance you will be in Paris for the Air Show? I wasn't planning on going but Dad
decided a few weeks ago to send me. I do hope you might be there as well. I know
I can easily drive to Huntsville and see you. But there is something so special about
a friendship that only seems to connect in London, New Orleans and Paris!

Please let me know of your plans. If you aren't planning to come, then I will make
that drive up I65 to Huntsville without delay.

All my best,

Minda

Mr. Speaker, Mr. Canary and Tim,

Attached is the briefing packet/ agenda for your trip to DC. It contains your schedule,
bios for each person you will be meeting with one-on-one and in some
cases, information about the organization they represent. There are two meetings on
Thursday that are still on HOLD: breakfast with David Furguson and Alex Mooney
(Maryland GOP) and hopefully a sit down with someone at C-Span. As soon as we know
something from these individuals, we will send you updated information.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Tim- this has a few changes from the packet we reviewed on Friday.
Mr. Canary/Mark - I have a packet printed for you if you would like for me to bring over
to BCA before you depart this afternoon.
Mr. Speaker - your final packet is in Hal's vehicle.
I hope you all have a wonderful time. I expect these meetings will be extremely
beneficial for the marketing of Storming the State House.
Please don't hesitate to call should someone find an error or have a question.
Best,
Alley

Rainey,

Hope this Email finds you well, busy & rested

Just to follow-up with you on our visit to Washington (BCA), thought if your calendar allowed, we might
consider establishing a tentative time & place to visit for Wednesday, October 5th?
Two options:

1. We could meet in the lobby of the Grand Hyatt (1000 H Street NW) at 2 PMish. We could find a
table at one of the many restaurants at that location? Joining us for that discussion would be our
Speaker Mike Hubbard
2. Or; if easier and more convenient for you, we would be pleased to visit you at your offices at 1990
M Street? Whatever works best for you.

AG0351277

And, Susan Carothers has advised me that you have been invited to join us for dinner that night (6:00 p.m.
at Oceanaire 1201 F. Street NW) with both Jay Timmons, president and CEO of NAM and our leadership group
from Alabama (about 15 of us)but; it appears that you have a conflict that night and at best you might be able to
drop-by for a drink (which would still be great).

Again, whatever works best for you!

All my best wishes and it will be great to see you.

Mr. Canary,

I hope this email finds you well. I loved visiting with you before Christmas at Mings. Sommer and I are
extremely jealous you were able to see Drew Brees break Dan Marinos record. I know you and Will had
a wonderful time.

I am starting to set-up the meetings you suggested with several CEOs from around the state for the
Speaker. It was brought to my attention that you may want to join him. Would you like for me to schedule
them so you may attend as well?

I will work with Mark to get these on your calendar if you wish. Hope to see you again very soon.
