surgery that I am having next week ......... please tell Susan I am sincerely sorry........However I
know you guys will have a great time and we will miss y'all. when you are eating at Carnegie's ---- think of us.
Riley's letter was hilarious.........that kid is going on 35 and doing so with a great deal of FLAIR.
NO QUESTION who he gets that from. He may even be better than his Dad.
Lets get together in a couple of weeks and catch up........ things like 2014, the article today, agenda for
next year, AEA's resurgence and alot of other issues ....... we just need to be sure everyone is singing of
the same page with some semblance of harmony.
The ''next year'' or two will be critical to your future ......... and we all must always be cognizant of that fact
with every decision we make ........however we all need to have good time and enjoy life as we do.
Have a great Thanksgiving my friend
I am THANKFUL for that friendship
On this Thanksgiving Eve, I feel led to tell you how thankful I am for my friendship
with you and your entire family as well as the opportunities I have had to work with
you.
You are without a doubt my mentor and role model on a number of fronts and
because of that, I believe I am a better person, husband, father and public servant.
Im still work on the businessman part of it, though!
I love you like a father and admire you as a son admires his father as well.

I enjoyed being with you and Mrs. Riley, Governor. Thank you both for spending time with us In
case you didn't know it, you are my all-time hero.
Thank you so much for helping me with the job issue and your concern for me. I really never
thought I'd be in this situation. I understand that my quest to be an effective Speaker - a
Speaker like you were a Governor - has been to the detriment to my personal and financial wellbeing. And I know I have to find a balance.
But I can't shake the belief that I am here in this position for a reason. Plus, I really do enjoy the
challenge. It's just a bad financial decision and I know it. I'm conflicted from doing what I'm best
at and what my talents are.
My worry is that for the first time in my life I don't feel in control and don't know exactly where
I'm going. I've always been a planner with every detail mapped out, so I'm in some unchartered
waters here and it's scary. I know I need to be spending more time and effort in figuring out
how to make a living, but for some reason I can't pull myself away from the political job. Susan
is worried and I understand why.
I have faith that God has a plan, I just wish He would go ahead and reveal it to me!
If you recommend Eric for the Caucus attorney, that's what we will do. I trust your opinion
completely.

FedEx PAC, every PAC that FexEx has influence over, every client that wants access to Shelby.
Just had dinner with Jimmy McLaughlin. He said to tell you hello.
If you will build polling/focus groups into your strategic consulting plans for BR&A clients, that is something that could benefit me.
I still believe that you are a "strategic business consultant", not a lobbyist. You could hire a lobbyist for BR&A - a Riley Team person
who will do it for virtually nothing - which will allow BR&A to hire Auburn Network, Inc. to handle your marketing needs. We could do
media buying, polling, focus groups, design work, printing, anything you need.
Less focus on you and your clients.
Just my opinion.

I think this is a good issue for GBR. Amazon is hurting local mom and pop shops and it isnt fair.
We passed it in the House last session and Amazon (Fine & Geddie) killed it in the Senate.
This referral came from Phil Musser, who I met with in DC yesterday, by the way. He can
generate more business for BR&A.
Please see below. Dad has been approached to assist RILA in reaching out to fellow
governors on this issue. Would like to know your thoughts before proceeding.
AG0632828
Talked with Katharine Luger at the RILA this morning. ( Retail Industry Leaders
Association)
Age old issue. Amazon vs. Retailers over sales tax. RILA believes
Amazon has a special discount because they don't charge sales tax.
Basically 10%. Citizens still owe they tax but Amazon doesnt charge it,
consumers don't volunteer it and Amazon has a distinct advantage.
Want to fight the fight now in the states and have Congress allow it to be
a states rights issue. Not direct lobbying of Congress but could be
possible. Overall, Republican governors are supportive that Congress
should loosen up the rule and let it be decided state by state.
They are sending a packet to me about the issue and some press
clippings of other governors' position.
We should also check with Mike and Josh as I remember this issue
coming up in the legislature last session. I do not know how it was

resolved.

The BR&A would work great and is, in fact, what I had thought we were going to do. When he
registered as a lobbyist, it messed that up. I hope he can and will unring the bell, but Rob seems
to think it might be a problem. Im not sure. He should be a strategic consultant, not a lobbyist. I
dont know why he ever registered.
i am so sorry my friend. i know bob martin well. he is the same guy who trashed
campbell and the bradley arant work, even though as you and i know he has been
held back for years BECAUSE of the work.
ING are idiots if they let a rock star like you go bc of a little bad press. like chizik
benching cam bc of of the mississippi lies. makes no sense.
did they ever get back to you on the consulting thing? give any more thought to the
rob riley thing?
i had another thought about it. (your situation stays on my mind alot). what if dad
dropped his lobbyist classification? I could be his lobbyist, since i am already
registered. BR and A could be a client. Then he could hire you to build a pr/political
machine.

A Riley-Hubbard Hater. This guy is obviously paid by Milton McGregor and the Democrats. He
owns a pitiful newspaper but it gives him First Amendment rights and I am a public figure.
This kind of stuff is probably the reason IMG has decided to terminate me. And Ive done
nothing wrong except try and change the state.

February or March.
The speaker was quoted as saying that the
book would document the Republican
takeover of the State Legislature in the 2010
elec- tions that ended 136-years of
Democrats in control of the lawmak- ing
process in Alabama.
The story also revealed that David Azbell, a
contract employee of the House of
Representatives, will assist Hubbard in
writing and editing the book until the
expected publication date is sometime in the
first quarter of 2012.
In March of this year the House began
paying Azbell $8,000 per month for
unspecified duties related to public relations.
He had pre- viously been paid a total of
$80,000 at $2,000 per month over the
previous three years to assist the House
Republican Caucus.
HUBBARD IS ALSO PRESIDENT OF THE
AUBURN NETWORK, which is owned by IMG
College and was recently purchased from ISP
Sports. State records and other reports I
have seen show that since State Fiscal Year
2008, over $4 million in state funds have
been spent on advertising with the Auburn
Network or its parent compa- ny. This is the
firm which has the contract to broadcast
Auburn foot- ball games and other Auburn
sports events...and, of course, sell
advertising for those events.
It is the observation of most Goat Hill
regulars that Speaker Hub- bard has a
virtual iron grip on the passage or failure of
legislation before the House. Therefore is
there any state agency with legisla- tion and
budgets before the House who would not
want to please the Speaker by patronizing
his business? I doubt it.
Some Capitol observers have suggested that
the very nature of these transactions
between Hubbard or Hubbards business and
state agencies amounts to silent
intimidation. Some have used stronger
language. I know the feeling. I had to deal
with the Legislature when Jimmy Clark was
Speaker.
ACCORDING TO INFORMATION THE
INDEPENDENT HAS RECEIVED, listed below
are the state agencies and departments and
some of the amounts paid to Hubbards
companies:

Hi Minda,
It is so good to hear from you and so much more exciting to see you in Paris than in Alabama. I
will see if I can squeeze out another invite to our Tea at the Ritz, which is being held at George
V Hotel on Sunday, 16 June, at 4pm. They keep telling me we are full, but there is always room
for one more very important person!!! The Ritz is undergoing renovation so we had to move for
this year. I am sure you are going to the AL Reception, so we can just spend the afternoon and
night catching up (in between working the room)
Will you be at the show Monday-Wednesday? If so, we can get together there for afternoon
tea at our chaletnot as fancy as the Ritz, but great place to watch the air show from our deck.
By the way, there is an Aerospace Alliance Seine River Cruise on Sunday at 11will you be
there?
I will let you know soon about the invite to the tea on Sunday! Hugs,

Any chance you will be in Paris for the Air Show? I wasn't planning on going but Dad
decided a few weeks ago to send me. I do hope you might be there as well. I know
I can easily drive to Huntsville and see you. But there is something so special about
a friendship that only seems to connect in London, New Orleans and Paris!
Please let me know of your plans. If you aren't planning to come, then I will make
that drive up I65 to Huntsville without delay.
All my best,

Rainey,
Just to follow-up with you on our visit to Washington (BCA), thought if your calendar allowed, we might
consider establishing a tentative time & place to visit for Wednesday, October 5th?
Two options:
1. We could meet in the lobby of the Grand Hyatt (1000 H Street NW) at 2 PMish. We could find a
table at one of the many restaurants at that location? Joining us for that discussion would be our
Speaker Mike Hubbard
2. Or; if easier and more convenient for you, we would be pleased to visit you at your offices at 1990
M Street? Whatever works best for you.
AG0351277
And, Susan Carothers has advised me that you have been invited to join us for dinner that night (6:00 p.m.
at Oceanaire 1201 F. Street NW) with both Jay Timmons, president and CEO of NAM and our leadership group
from Alabama (about 15 of us)but; it appears that you have a conflict that night and at best you might be able to
drop-by for a drink (which would still be great).
