We would like to welcome Sarah Palmer to the

Berkeley Senior Services Team. Our center is always
looking for ways to expand and reach out to the senior
community. We want to connect with other groups and
organizations that are interested in senior programs and
services that can benefit you as a participant or as a
volunteer. Sarah hit the ground running when she came
on board, right in the middle of our Annual Holiday Food
Basket distribution. Her impact was immediately noticed
with her drive to jump right in and deliver several of the
Food baskets. She will be taking on several
responsibilities as an outreach assistant. For instance,
the Telephone Assurance Program, which is a periodic
phone call from trained staff to enable a senior to
continue living independently. Her kindness and
experience is a great benefit which will enable
seniors to remain independent and enjoy the greatest
years of their life. We are very grateful to have Sarah
Palmer join our team here at Berkeley Senior Services.

You do not need to be an expert. All of our volunteers are simply computer enthusiasts
who enjoy helping others gain more confidence with

SOME THOUGHTS ON MEDICARE

STEVE ENGLEBRIGHT, BSS SHIP COUNSELOR

If you are approaching age 65 or are age 65 and

retired, you need to understand the importance of
having quality health care coverage and also
prescription plan coverage. You may be in good
health today, but that could change unexpectedly at
any time.

It is important to remember that your open window

(life qualifying event) has time limits and you could
face penalties should you not enroll within your
election period. Not taking advantage of that open
window could cost you increased premiums as well
as penalties.

If you are going to become Medicare eligible some

time in 2015, you need to understand that you will be
able to make certain changes at that time under what
is called by Medicare a life qualifying event.

NEED MORE INFORMATION?

FEEL FREE TO CALL ME AT:
STEVE ENGLEBRIGHT
BERKELEY SENIOR SERVICES

So, if you find yourself turning 65 during 2015,

consider giving me a call for an appointment so that
we can discuss that qualifying event and how it
may make certain options available to you that you
may not have available to you at other times.

SPRING CLEAN YOUR LIFE!

With spring comes the chance to renew our

New Years resolutions to be healthier and
happier. Do you feel like you are always
over scheduled, overfed, under exercised
and under relaxed?
Spring clean your 24 hour day. Have
Facebook, text messaging, and online
games crept into your life, stealing valuable
sleep time, family time, and time you used
to have for reading and relaxing?
Technology is great, but it has to work for
you, not against you.
Spring clean your refrigerator. It is filled
with leftover fast food containers, processed
meats, comforting junk foods and 2-year old
jars of pickles and relishes? Clean it out.

11:30 Lunch Served

MENU: Chicken Alfredo over Noodles w/Steamed Broccoli,
Jell-0 with Fruit
BSS Nutrition Program suggested donation Procedures will apply
Seniors age 60+ and their guests are invited to attend.
Please call to sign up for lunch
(Must have full name of all signups--including carry outs)
No later than Monday (before noon) March 9, 2015 304-263-8873

Spring clean your diet. Let your friends

and family know you are swearing off fried
foods and extra sweets for a while. Stock
up on fresh vegetables and fruit. If you live
alone, have a supper club where you and
your friends take turns preparing healthier
dinners.
Spring clean your relationships. Do you
spend a lot of time listening to negative
gossip from unhappy people? Decrease the
time spent on these friends and more time
with those who have positive attitudes and
outlooks.
