Euro Strada selected IBM to optimize its IT facilities with a

new generation data center solution

Bucharest, March 12th 2014 Euro Strada, one of the most important development
companies of rural and urban infrastructure in Romania, needed to keep up with
increasing communications and space for IT collocation business demands and to add
new data center capacity for addressing new business challenges.
The complexity and costs of building a traditional raised-floor space, combined with a
lack of available floor space, generated an important challenge for the company. IBM
provided Euro Strada with a new generation of data center design and implementation,
named Scalable Modular Data Center (SMDC), which helped the client optimize their IT
facilities and contribute to a greener environment; its a modular, scalable, quick-todeploy, cost-effective and energy efficient data center solution, suitable for increasing
high density computing environment.
By using standardized components, the architecture of this data center easily scales to
meet the evolving needs of the company and resolving the space constraint issue that the
client was facing. The SMDC design integrates efficient power, adaptive cooling, racks,
infrastructure management, and environment and security monitoring services. The
SMDC solution is based on APC InfraStruXure TM and other equipment and solutions
from leading data center infrastructure manufacturers. Furthermore, adopting SMDC
allowed Euro Strada to bring down implementation costs by 20% and operating costs as
much as by 40%.
IBM also provided a reliable, flexible and cost effective local data center networking
solution which will result in increased performance, more efficient network operations as
well as financial savings. IBM leveraged the latest Cisco data center networking
technologies for this purpose.
IBM designed and implemented a solution based on space and power constraints
identified at the Euro Strada location. Using high expertise and design tools, we
developed the solution based on the newest data center technologies to help our client
with more rapid deployment of IT and communication solutions, insuring greater
