S.C.R.U.B.S stands for SHRM Club

Recruitment Ultimate Biannual Social.
This semester, S.C.R.U.B.S was held at
Mnoa Valley District Park. This event
allows returning and prospective
members to get to know each other and
the club a little better. Our Director of
Student Affairs, Kelsey Monticalvo,
organized many fun activities for
members to break the ice with each
other.
The day started with a friendly game
of Ninja: members were randomly
broken into groups to see who was the
last ninja standing. We then played
egg-dinosaur-wizard-superhero,
a
rock-paper-scissors style game where
everyone turned into a superhero! Next,
members were randomly split into new
groups, led by an executive board
member, to create a cheer or dance
incorporating SHRM, and the winning
team, led by Megan Williams, was first
to eat lunch, catered by Ginas.
After lunch, SHRMies played a few
friendly games of dodge ball and were
joined by some special guestssome
tiny baseball players who were
practicing at the park that morning!
This was a fantastic event, and we owe
it all to our wonderful Student Affairs
director, Kelsey Monticalvo.

SHRM X FMA
MAKAPUU HIKE

In February, SHRMies joined their

friends from FMA in a nice, relaxing
hike up to the Makapuu lighthouse.
Some members brought their dogs and
all shared a beautiful day getting to
know each other in the sunshine. There
were even some humpback whales
breaching offshore! We thank our
friends from FMA for helping put
together and participate in this fun
event.
For highlights from the hike, feel free
to visit our YouTube channel!

COMMUNITY

KAISER PERMANENTE

GREAT ALOHA RUN

PACKET DISTRIBUTION
During the month of February, the
SHRM
Aloha
Student
Chapter
participated in several fun activities, one
of which happened to be a community
service event. On February 14th, our
members volunteered at the Kaiser
Permanente
Great
Aloha
Run
Experience the Aloha Expo. Our
volunteers were involved in the packet
distribution, in which our student
members handed out participants runner
numbers, time chips, and information
packets, all with great aloha spirit.
The members had a great time
giving back to the community and
promoting good health and fitness while
networking with other philanthropic
members of the community and are eager
to participate in future community service
events.
Next month, the SHRM Aloha Chapter
will be participating in the American
Cancer Societys Relay for Life alongside
the ten other Shidler College of Business
clubs in one large Inter-Business Council
team, working together to help raise funds
and awareness for cancer research and
honor those who have lost the fight
against it.

[ Company Tour ]

Company tours are opportunities to gain

insight about exceptional businesses in
Hawaii. Members will see behind the scenes
and learn about the corporate culture and
how facilities are run in the company, as well
as, the role they plays in the Hawaiis
community. Members will learn the different
areas and positions in the company and find
out what the company looks for in job
candidates.

WORKSHOP
PERSONAL
BRANDING
In February, our Director of
Professional
Development,
David
Schauf,
organized
an
amazing
workshop with Keith Vieira, who taught
members how to make themselves
stand out in a sea of resumes.
He shared with SHRMies his
personal stories and those of people
he found memorable as an interviewer.
Members were able to ask
questions regarding their personal
stories and other things companies
look for when interviewing applicants. It
was very informative, and we thank
Keith again for his time and invaluable
knowledge.
