Abstract:
Mixedmethodsresearchisarapidlyexpandingmethodologyinthesocialandhumansciencesin
theUSandaroundtheworld.InthispresentationIwillfirstdefinemixedmethodsresearch(combining
bothquantitativeandqualitativemethodsofresearch)anddiscusswhatitisandwhatitisnot.ThenI
willreviewabriefhistoryofitsdevelopment,andwhyitisimportanttoday.Iwilldiscussseveralofthe
scientificdevelopmentsinmixedmethodsthathaveoccurredoverthelasttenyears,suchasthe
specificationoftypesofdesigns,theformationofmixedmethodsquestions,andtheuseofinnovative
approachestojointlydisplayquantitativeandqualitativeresults.Finally,Iwilltalkaboutthefutureof
thismethodologywhereitisheadedandsomeimportantworldwidedevelopmentsthathave
encouragedmixedmethodsresearch.
