The Effectiveness of Training and Developmental Activities at Bamboo Corporation Ltd INTRODUCTION Training refers to teaching specific skills and behaviors. It is usually reserved for people who have to be brought up to performing level in some specific skills. Development in contrast is considered to be more general than training and more oriented to individual needs in addition to organizational needs and is most often aimed towards management people. The intent of development is to provide knowledge and understanding that will enable people to carry out non-technical organizational functions more effectively, such as problem- solving, decision-making and relating to people. INDUSTRY PROFILE Bamboo Mat Boards (BMB) and Bamboo Mat Veneer Composites (BMVC): Indian Plywood Industries Research and Training Institute, Bangalore, has developed a technology for manufacturing BMB and BMVC utilizing bamboo mats produced manually by traditionally skilled artisans. About 85,000 cum of BMB were manufactured during 1998 from 8 factories with an installed capacity of 133,000 cum/annum. A large number of cottage industries like manufacturer of tablemats, bamboo wares, trays are dependent on bamboo as raw material. Many articles of common domestic use like mats, baskets, toys, nets, wall plates, wall hangers, trays etc. are made from bamboo COMPANY PROFILE The Kerala State Bamboo Corporation Ltd., a government of Kerala undertaking, was established in the year 1971, with a mission to support and uplift the bamboo weaving and reed cutter community as well as other traditional workers depending on bamboo resources. Over one lakh individuals, who are either engaged in reed cutting, mat weaving or making handicraft articles are benefited from the Corporation. Statement of the Problem Training activities are designed to impart skills, abilities and knowledge to employees. These programs are important as it trends stability and flexibility to an organization, besides contributing its capacity to grow. The organization spends considerable amount towards the various training programs. The amount spends only worth if these programs are achieving the required objectives and only if the workers fell satisfied with these.

To ascertain the satisfaction of employees towards training program provided at Bamboo
corporation Ltd To give suggestions for improving the training program, if required.
SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The project study aims to find the effectiveness of the training provided at Bamboo Corporation Ltd. This study also aims at identifying the deviation between the employees expectation from a training program and what is actually provided to them by the organization RESEARCH DESIGN: Population: The study includes the employees of Bamboo Corporation Ltd. Sample unit: 300 employees of Kerala state bamboo corporation ltd. Sample size: 100 among the employees of Kerala state bamboo corporation ltd. Sample technique: Convenience sampling.
Data collection method:
Questionnaire is used as an instrument for collecting information from the employees. Sources of Data Primary Data Primary data is the first- hand data. Questionnaire was used and has been prepared in such a way that it has taken consideration, all possible ways of getting maximum information from the respondents. Secondary Data: Secondary data is the second- hand data which mainly consists of information collected from company records, company profiles, and office records and also from discussion with the management of the organization. The training manual of the company was referred for obtaining information for the project study. TOOLS FOR DATA COLLECTION Statistical Tools The data has been analyzed using the simple percentage method, which is supplemented by appropriate charts and graphs. Limitations of the study The major limitation of the study was the time constraint Some of the respondents were reluctant to give their views. CONCLUSION Training is the most important activity or plays an important role in the development of human resources. To put the right man at the right place with the trained personnel has now become essential in todays globalised market. No organization has a choice on whether or not to develop employees. Therefore training has nowadays become an important and required factor for maintaining and improving interpersonal and intergroup collaboration.
