PRACTICAL TRAINING REPORT

FOREWORDS

It has been a statutory requirement for students in AC220

course; Bachelor in Accountancy of UiTM to go for a six months
industrial training as part of the learning process. The places were
independently selected by the students for them to undergo the
trainings with a simple regulation; there must be accounting
practices in the firm; financial accounting, audit or taxation.
Place of my choice was in my hometown, Jamal Amin and
Partners Kangar Branch Office, Perlis.

COMPANY BACKGROUND
Jamal Amin and Partners was originally found by Mr. Jamal
Shahidan in the late of year 1994. Since there were no merges
incurred during the early years of the business, it was known as JS
Associates Sdn. Bhd. The first office was opened at Klang,
Selangor.
Operated the business for about three years then, the
company restructured when Mr Aminuddin Yahya enters the
company as the major members with Mr Shahidan; the company
undergo transformations of the joint-associates and changed
named into Jamal Amin and Partners in year 1997, and opens up
the second branch office in Alor Star, Kedah.
Started from that, this company keeps on growing by
opening more branches all over Peninsular and West Malaysia
because of higher demands received from client all over the
country for the audit and assurance services offered. The next
branches opened were in Kuala Lumpur in1998, Johor Bahru in
1999, Labuan in 2001, Penang in 2002, Kota Bharu in 2004,
Kangar in 2005 and last but not least in Kota Kinabalu in 2007.
Lastly in the latest year of 2012, Putrajaya branch was opened
and the company once again undergo the restructuring and

opened another sector of the company known as JSA Group where

the services offered are more widen.
With the restructuring, this company now offered to public
services not only on audits solely, but also services such as:

Statutory audits
Listing exercise (for company that wanted to go public)
Due diligence / audit investigation / valuation
Internal auditing
Financial services
Business advisory
Syariah advisory
Tax planning and computations
Secretary services

Apart from that, Kangars branch are actually the sub-branch

of the Alor Star branch. It was opened when the demand in
Perlis were unhandled by the Alor Star branch office. Thus,
Perlis branch office was opened and catered almost all of public
sectors in Perlis alongside private company and businesses for
the audit and accounting services.

EXPERIENCES GAINED
Doing my practical training in this company; for this three
months time already taught me a lots of experiences and precious
lessons for me in the accountancy world especially in auditing.
Things were learned in practices, not only just by theory;
means that I actually been taught to do audits not by theory but
reality. Basic procedures such as updating working papers were
some of the things that I had never think of during my lesson in
the class. Thus, with this opportunities I actually seen and did by
myself what actually meant by auditing.

There were a lot of other audit procedures that I have done

during my time in this firm, in short example such as vouching,
interviewing and also I experience myself what are field auditing
really was. I have met many clients with their own issues and
characters. Yes, some of the theories I had learnt in the class were
really useful, while some of the experiences were just too hard to
explain in books. I also saw a lots of real time issues, errors and
faults in the accounting that made by the client as been told by
years of learning in classes.
With this training also, I had learnt how to deal with clients.
Not all of the clients are problematic, some were just too good to
be corrected, while some others need advices and corrections in
the accounts through audit work. This actually tested my
communication skills how to gain information and also give
interactions to the client with their accounts. The real time
experience was something that I enjoy more than just learnt in
class.

ENCLOSURE
As to conclude, to be honest the practical trainings are one
of the essential lesson that every students in accountancy course
must undergo. The experience and lesson that learnt were
something that cannot be learnt in class. Apart from that, in my
personal views; to do practical training in this such company
(Jamal Amin and Partners) was highly recommended by myself, as
it was recommended for me from my previous seniors. This is
because students can experience audits in very different ways;
from group works to sole works, from company to associations
auditing and also both public and private sectors.

In additions to my opinions, I hope that one day the practical

trainings for this courses would be considered to be done in the
final semester, so the students can be more prepared to apply the
lesson learned in the real world, apart to opens up the chances to
grab the job opportunity that usually offered by their practical
companies.
Thank you.
