SHAME ON ME: WHY IT WAS WRONG TO COST THE MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS Brookings Institute, 2/03/2015 Fourteen years ago, as preparation for the 2002 Monterrey Conference on Financing for Development, two colleagues and I wrote a paper estimating the costs of achieving the MDGs. While the paper was widely cited and our estimatean additional $50 billionwas the same as that adopted by the conference (see for example Kofi Annans speech), I have been feeling increasingly uncomfortable with some of the methods we used to arrive at an estimate. A number of thoughtful people have also criticized us (here and here). I now think the whole exercise was wrong on at least three counts (Read article)

BLENDING OR STILL JUST MIXING?
ECDPM, 4/03/2015 Although several MDGs have been reached, there is still a huge financing gap (approximately US$ 2,500bn per year), which is needed to meet the new SDGs for post-2015 development. There is, therefore, more interest in cooperation between the public and private sector to fill this gap, both sides. At the same time, the attention to efficiency and effectiveness of donor funds is increasing.
