Slaves to Righteousness

What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!16
Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves,[c] you are
slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which
leads to righteousness? 17 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have
become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were
committed, 18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.19 I
am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once
presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more
lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to
sanctification.

What is something that stuck out from tonights bible passage and/or talk?
Verse 15 How do you feel about someone who claims they are a follower of Jesus and has
no problem making unwise and sinful choices over and over again?
Verse 16 Paul is using slavery as a way to illustrate that we all have a master. Our master is
either sin or righteousness. In our modern day, can you relate to Pauls description of being a
slave to sin or to righteousness?
In your own words, what does it mean to be a slave to righteousness?
Famous songwriter and performer, Bob Dylan, sang Youre gonna have to serve somebody,
yes indeed. Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord, but youre going to have to serve
somebody. How would you describe yourselfserving sin, serving the Lord, or somewhere in
between?
Applying the Word
When you are tempted to serve your flesh (to sin) what is a practical way you
can change your focus and serve the Lord?
This side of heaven we will never fully resist sin. The important thing is our
trajectory. What is one area in your life the Lord is asking you to resist
bowing down to and serving?
